A-20 Ground Attack sortie, details below Airfield Destruction! A-20 Havoc goes ballistic.

A lone A-20 Havoc supports a ground invasion of a German Airfield. This ground attack highlights the lethality of the A-20 Havoc platform. All 20 bombs were used to great effect and all belts of .50 cal ammo were exhausted! It surprised me the level of destruction a single A-20 Havoc can accomplish.

I had alot of fun doing this IL-2 ground attack. The only problem being with more AI activity in il2 the more PC resources are needed! The il2 A-20 modelling is fantastic. I think the A-20 Havoc is probably the best ground attack plane in il2. It has a decent payload, it can take heaps of damage from AAA, it can perform well on a single engine. Also, for its size the Havoc is quiet nimble and it is no slouch in the speed department. Flight simulator ground attacks are always fun especially when done in a decent WW2 flight sim like IL-2.

A Luftwaffe Me-262 jet is jumped on its approach to landing. Unfortunately the me-262 jet sustains moderate damage. All seems well until the left engine on the me-262 jet catches fire resulting in an emergency landing.

I was returning from a bombing mission flying the A-20 Havoc. Suddenly a couple of bf109s got on my tail and fired. They scored a direct hit! Blowing one of my elevators clean off. This event violently inverted my A-20. I found myself in the dreaded inverted spin! Try as I may to recover from this inverted spin nothing much worked. So, in a moment of panic I lowered the landing gear and applied FULL flaps. To my surprise this action immediately restored the the A-20 to a somewhat level flight!

After a successful ground attack sortie against a vehicle supply column. I was getting low on fuel and the engine RPM didn't sound normal. So, I made the decision to head home. This aircraft landing was going to be my first in the Spitfire so I was abit nervous! Right at the runway threshold the spitfires engine cut out. Full flaps had already been selected thankfully so a some what normal/ emergency landing followed. What happened next must be seen to be believed! All I can say is it ended in the death of the pilot! You be the judge whether what happened was right or wrong in the context of the World War II battleground.
