@toyo75 Not the same cut scene over and over again, when they get thrashed by the immediately following boss. Taking 4 minutes to get back in the game, and then continuously dying in the same spot is annoying to anybody.

@DiverseGamer I assume you don't have kids. Yes, four and five year olds play DS games. In fact, they're rather popular with that age group. There's a reasonable amount of pre-school level software available for them, including stuff like Dora the Explorer and colouring-in games.

Kids aren't stupid - they're occasionally thoughtless, and they don't have great fine motor skills. They do need more durable technology than adults do. No hinge is a good idea, and I'm hoping the carry case is included, or those screens will end up scratched pretty quickly.

And of course a parent is less likely to give a kid a normal 3DS. They're too darn expensive for a start, and eyesight specialists are raising a lot of concerns re kids and 3D screens. I'd say this is a good move on Nintendo's part, but it's one aimed firmly at parents. I can't see anything this clunky taking off with adults into portable gaming.

@grenade1979 The peripherals were exactly the reason the Wii trounced its opposition in the current gen, despite being underpowered compared to the other consoles. So yes, they can be a driving force behind sales.

Admittedly, I also can't see this being a big draw for *gamers*. It looks like Microsoft is trying to appeal to the casual audience Nintendo unearthed, but keep the specs high enough to not alienate the 360's current demographic. Be interesting to see if they succeed at that...

@berethor099 @grim0187 I can handle the Halo'ing 5 year old. It's the guy who's letting his 4 year old play The Last Of Us that's causing me to cringe. I'd think about it before giving a ten year old Last Of Us (and probably decide 'no').

@hystavito Sony may be benefiting from the underdog image since they're basically done everything right, but if they'd made the same missteps as MS had, they'd have been crucified much worse than MS is getting. Most Xbox 360 owners *wanted* to hate Sony and laugh about their inability to put out a decent next gen console; it's just that they were forced to change their tune by the appalling stuff that was being shoved out as the Xbox One. MS started this generation with a much greater license to "do whatever they please". They just pushed it way too far - it will be up to the more casual gaming crowd to keep the Xbone is the race now.

@Stabba_The_Kutt But this review does mention the differences between the PC and console versions:

"But it's much more attractive on the PC, where objects are sharp and defined well into the distance, than it is on consoles, where objects even a short distance away look muddy by comparison."

@daemonproject I think the problem most people have is that MS spent such an incredible amount of money in tweaking an existing design. The visible differences between the new and old controllers certainly aren't worth $100,000,000+. When gamers have it in their hands the ease-of-use improvements might make that cost sound more reasonable (or maybe we'll all just roll our eyes at the way commercial R&D burns through money).

@csward @Kane04 While I'm prepared to believe that most mass murderers have emotional or psychological issues (who doesn't?), the only reason most are declared to be "deranged" is that they kill people. That's a bit late for a useful diagnosis.

There will always be people who are potentially dangerous to others, but don't particularly look it. Hence why society tries to identify and remove enabling tools (access to guns, explosives, poisons) or triggers (supposedly but unprovably violent media).

Since we have lots of proof that the perpetrators of such crimes primarily use guns (hence the phrase "school shootings") that makes gun control a far saner approach than an inquiry into violent media. (I'm not claiming it would help, just that it's more likely to.)

You're right that guns don't *cause* violence, but it is their primary purpose, limiting the problems caused by reducing access to them. As opposed to, say, hammers and baseball bats, which can also be used for violence, but are much more commonly used for daily activities like hitting nails and playing games.

@isshiah Unfortunately people get to decide that when they choose to elect the ignorant/biased. If so many voters didn't believe violent games/films/rock music weren't the root of all evil, politicians wouldn't get away with the scapegoat act.

I think I'll just stop following all Xbox One news now, and wait til about a week before launch. MS seem determined to announce unpopular policy after unpopular policy, wait a few weeks, and then completely reverse each piece of information. I don't think they even know themselves what the Xbox One is going to be or do yet. It changes with the wind of popular opinion...
