After their ‘update’ to the story I wasn’t surprised to hear this was StackCommerce.
They are a middleman reseller that finds enough customers to satisfy a bulk order purchase.
They don’t seem to check the products they are selling or if the information given to them by the wholesaler is correct.
Their customer service seems to be e-mail only and answered every Saturday from 3-6 PM. And they’ll ask a bunch of questions before saying they’ll have to talk to the wholesaler. This person will then send an email to StackCommerce which will forward the email to you which asks the same questions. You will have to provide civil suit winning evidence to get a refund.
I bought a 2 terabyte external M.2 SSD with a USB C connection from them as part of some other sale promoted by a different site. When I finally got it (it was still in China when I bought it) it was nonfunctional. I complained and eventually asked for a replacement. When I finally got that one, it had tue same problem.
I kept asking for a refund and I was slowly asked for proof. I sent them cropped pictures and edited low res video (because there’s a 10 MB cap on sent email and all evidence has to be in one email) of it not working and false advertising, as the package the SSD came in said it was an enclosure, not an actual drive and other such technical mistakes.
StackCommerce sent an email saying they sent the wholesaler an email and are await a response.
After the 6th day of waiting, I broke open one of the enclosures. Inside was a USB A flash drive in a USB A to C converter.
That’s when I sent an email saying that this is now fraud on both of their parts and I will be seeking advice on the matter.
Two days later I got an email from StackCommerce saying the refund is going through and then an email from the wholesaler (through StackCommerce) that they were going to refund me.
I have more than a good case for suing GameSpot for either false advertising due to negligence or complicit fraud depending on how deep the connection goes.
You said “It can, however, be used once your current membership expires”.
The selling page eventually says “cannot be redeemed on a Microsoft account that has Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, either expired or active”.
That's not nerfing, that's someone doing their job which causes someone else to do theirs which caused an alteration of code to try and balance the game. You know, what making video games used to be before players became QAs and games never come out of beta.
