Question I have been thinking about getting a 360 but my question is if you buy the cooler for your 360 will it keep it from breaking. kingyotoX

I have read ( sorry, can't remember where, do a google ) that the Nykko cooler doesn't help and may actually make it worse. Sometimes the cooler melts the fan.

If it did work, just think of the huge profits they could make - they could sell almost as many coolers as 360,s and the most popular bundle would be the 360/Nykko cooler special.

Yep, my cousin has gotten through 6 Oblivion disks. His machine works fine 95% of the time, but then suddenly makes a really loud crunching sound. When he presses the eject button his disk comes out totally mangled and in 6 or seven pieces.

He's pretty pissed off about it.

Im going to get the xbox 360 elite .. have microsoft been dealing with this problem okay or is it just as bad as it was when it first started? Im worried that if i get one it will just die on me straight away =\ have the number of new xbox's breaking died down?PolkaStripe

M$ haven't stated that they've solved the problem yet, in fact they haven't even said what the main cause of RRoD is. The elite is basically the same internally, but there are a few small differences in architectureso it's probably the savest bet.

From reading lots of stuff about RRoD I reckon the only "safe" way is to wait until M$ start using 65nm chips ( autumn? ) which should greatly reduce overheating issues.

Has anyone on this board got an elite?..... if so, had any trouble with it?

Well I'll be waiting until M$ can clearlystate that they have found and solved RRoD problem ( probably 65mn chips ) before I buy a 360 and all the great games that the system has.

They have offered the 3 year warranty but haven't even hinted that the basic problem has been resolved yet and I don't want the bother of mailing boxes etc. waiting for weeks to get back a refurb. that breaks after 2 hours..

Come on M$, get your act together and produce some decent reliable hardware - I'm sure you can do it!!
