Gotta give them credit. They played the system like a fiddle. They marketed (and lied which is kinda their job when you have a shoddy product) the media (yeah that's you too Gamespot) jumped on the hype train like they never have EVER for whatever reason. Then of course there is consumer (yeah that's me too) who bought all of that nonsense and preordered it. Gamers get mad but these people saw it as it is. It's a business and they don't give a damn if you like their games once you've bought it. On to the next...busy busy.
If they didn't get absolutely RAILROADED by all the people they lied to (investors, media, consumers, etc) that game would still be the way it was at launch or close enough that it makes no matter. Mind you, it would not have received so much push back it were playable on certain platforms (studios have lied before but this was a whole new level of that). Bottom line dishonesty aside, I'm not surprised they made a killing off this debacle.
So the first scene of this movie will most likely be a funeral. Then it will be all like "Imma make him proud...and my daddy too". He'll push himself too hard and start pushing people away then momma will set him straight in traditional Rocky fashion.
They've kept fantasy worlds out of Bioshock choosing instead to deal with parallel universes, and cities in cloud and sea. The next logical step is space or in the core of our planet (somehow). So it will be stations and such. While that can be done in an open world fashion, they usually remain reasonably small open worlds. It's when devs go too big do we get empty worlds which suck as a whole.
Too early to tell if this move will be good or bad. I like the series so I hope it does well.
Them growing as a studio is good for Borderlands (the next one might just be a good game from launch if we're lucky) but as far as new IPs go, i don't know if it will make a difference. Anytime Gearbox strays from the Borderlands it usually ends REAL bad. Not a knock to em it's just a fact but it's not like they don't do good work and they keep at trying to improve their games which not many do. Hope what they got cooking is ACTUALLY good and not Randy Pitchford "good".
