@howmakewood: my question is that with the push for real-time raytracing, is 1080p30 even a realistic goal in a few years or would we see games average out to 900p or lower? (probably not 720p on PS5/Series X tho)

@techhog89: added to OP. I think it should be at least comparable to a Series X if not slightly better

I'll admit that i'm not that well-versed in console gaming, though being one of the early adopters of WH40K Darktide, I also know that it's one of the first true current-gen multiplatform games. With the way the game currently runs at 1080p with medium quality raytracing on the system I have, I actually wonder if higher resolutions and RT would be mutually exclusive on the upcoming console port. Performance mode would probably not be an option for the Series S, but the Series X would probably have to target a sub-1080p resolution and the PC equivalent of Medium settings/RT Off.

Of course, it's still too early to determine how things would look, but I figured it'd be worth mentioning that 60FPS games on the PS4 and Xbox One ran at sub-1080p resolutions (hell, even some 30FPS games can't do native 1080) when those systems were still only a few years old.

Edit: my specs

Unpopular opinion: They should consider a 2050s setting, and have the game be a commentary about the militarization of law enforcement, dressed up with things like chicken walkers, energy weapons, and cyborgs.

I'd be instantly interested. The settings in the three Mafia titles were way too boring.

It defeat the purpose of Mafia.

Mafia should be set in the prohibition era. 1920s, tommy gun, suit and hats. that's what make Mafia.

dont need another saints row set in 2050.

I was honestly thinking about that kind of thing being done in a more serious tone. The militarization of police has been a controversial topic for some time now, and I feel like it's probably worth it for a video game to be a conversational piece about that. Dressing it up in a science fiction world's probably the best way to go about it IMO

I think such a game could take place in Empire Bay, and have the events of Mafia 2 be a justification for why Empire Bay's police department needs laser guns and mechs.

Nippon Ichi Software's probably the biggest villains in gaming, at least if you game on a home computer. It's thanks to them that for the past 9 years, the PC gaming scene in Japan has been little more than a series of glorified petitions of future ports that often required us to satisfy the honestly unrealistic expectation that fans of ANY of a developer's games will like ALL of them just because the consumer chose to game on PC.

@judaspete:She is. You really only need to memorize a very small handful of key moves and you can trivialize most opponents who have a better idea of what they're doing. And i'm not talking about the underboob but rather how the dev team wants the more thirsty playerbase to lust for one very specific character and their way of doing that just so happens to be "make that character actually overpowered".

As for the whole "get horny people on board with Mina" thing, I can at least confirm that she isn't the most popular SoulCalibur character to draw... very specific forms of fanart of. So that plan failed, but since people are looking at her overpoweredness like "Yep... that's perfectly balanced", i fully expect the dev team to try something similar with another female character moving onto the next SoulCalibur game. I dunno if it'll still be Mina due to Okubo's departure from Bandai Namco Studios.

Dunno if it's just me, but I feel like i'm the only sane person when it comes to multiplayer games being intentionally imbalanced. Why do I say this is because of my experiences with SoulCalibur VI, Killing Floor 2 and Mount&Blade Bannerlord

SCVI seems to be the only fighting game in the market were one specific female character is allowed to be gamebreakingly overpowered, with the dev team's waifu being Seong Mi-na. People seem oddly okay with this because who has time to work for your wins when your pants are already halfway down your legs? On the opposite end of things, the dev team no longer wishes to acknowledge Geralt's inclusion in the game since they'd rather have you play Haohmaru if you want a male guest character in SCVI. And people seem to have a "good riddance" mentality in regards to Geralt being the absolute worst character in the game. So that's two things that SCVI got away with that other fighting games can't: have a base game female character be so overpowered that they throw game balance out the window in favour of "draw more porn of our waifu", while also nerfing a character to absolute uselessness in order to entice DLC purchases.

Moving onto Killing Floor 2, Suicidal got buffed some time in 2018 since people found it to be a little too easy. Hard hasn't been changed at all so that it's still ridiculously easy for people with perk levels 12 or above, while Suicidal is hard to the point where you will need a fully populated server where everyone is max level and also have a Berserker, Medic, Demolitionist and Commando in your team. Unfortunately, they nerfed Berserker in such a way where even if you play him correctly, you'll be struggling to keep yourself alive halfway through keeping hordes of enemies away from your far more fragile teammates just so that the developers can justify selling you a DLC weapon that lets you thin out those same crowds from a distance. Again, people are oddly okay with Berserker becoming a pay-to-win class even if they're what's standing between a fleshpound and killing the damage dealers of your team.

Aaaand Bannerlord, or why I got fed up with TaleWorlds' bullcrap and bought Chivalry 2 instead. The dev team has a very specific vision in mind where Bannerlord's multiplayer shouldn't be treated as a medieval combat game, but rather a modern military shooter with a medieval skin because a team consisting only of archers and nothing else are more than capable of shutting down anything resembling an evenly balanced team composition. Even in the unlikely event where both teams have enough honor to not completely annihilate the opposition with archer spam, some classes are either absolutely worthless or stupidly overpowered relative to the number of respawn tokens you use to play as them.

I still wish we could get a Total War game based on Age of Sigmar, if only to have the Space Marines and Tyranids finally be in a good game.

40K proper most likely wouldn't work with Total War's formula though since medieval line formations don't really translate well in a game with automatic weapons, swordsmen having access to jump jets or APCs, pretty much all the modern and futuristic methods of warfare employed by 40K.
