I think the thing that is bothering me the most right now with all this is all the EA/DICE (mostly EA) "live service" bs being used as justification for making us wait to receive the game we wanted at launch.
Saying they are going to "constantly" and "continually" update the game does not put my mind to ease; it has the opposite effect. To me, that comes across more like it will take many months to right this sinking ship.
But more infuriating along these lines is how it really feels like this whole live service crap gives them even more of a reason to release unfinished, sub par products! It's like the execs are thinking, "what we used to fix with a few patches we can now put off for months, or indefinitely, under the guise of the consumers getting a better game through constant feedback."
No, that feedback should have been sharable months ago, not starting a little over 1 month before the game releases!! These big betas need to go live at least 5 months earlier. Because if the one for BFII would have, we'd all be singing a very different tune right now.
@Mogan: My personal fav from the series as well. Totally agree about the crafting parts; never needed to spend a dime either. And it has hands down the best weapon crafting system I've ever seen in a game.
@Pac1Man: That's what I like about how Ninja Theory handled Hellblade. They made it clear throughout its dev. that they intended it to be a AAA game with an indie budget/A-AA team size. And they cut the starting price in half ($30) accordingly.
@rekonym: I agree with what you're saying but you're forgetting a few other devs. For one, DICE didn't work on BFII by themselves; Criterion and Motive also contributed. And second, you're forgetting Respawn and EA Vancouver. They are both also working on a separate SW games -- Respawn on an action-focused title, and the latter are picking up the pieces of Visceral's (R.I.P.) project.
@Xristophoros: thought the same thing about the Chinese fan game award. So stupid. Though The Game Awards are still a total joke compared to all the other industry-run award events.
