1. I chose the 6850 because of his budget.

2. That RAM is the same price as the RAM I chose for him. In fact, since he'd be getting the RAM as part of the combo I selected, he'd be getting it at a LOWER price than the RAM your link leads to. Also, the RAM your link leads to does not have heat spreaders. So, in essence, with my recommendation, he'd be getting BETTER RAM for a cheaper price.

BluRayHiDef

Maybe, but heat spreaders do nothing, and that run won't run at 1600MHz unless the OP clocks it up to that speed.

My point is, with the BETTER RAM I chose for him, why would he choose your recommendation? He's getting better RAM for a CHEAPER price. Even if he doesn't use its better capabilities now, perhaps he'll want to in the future. Why not get RAM that can overclock to a higher frequency and has a lower CAS latency, when it's CHEAPER than RAM that can't run at a higher frequency and has a higher CAS latency? Essentially, you're telling him to choose a product that's worse than the one I recommended, for a HIGHER price. Does that make any sense? NO!

I concede. It is a good choice.

Well, what was the best video card you could get at the time the Xbox 360 was released? A 512MB GTX 7800 or an ATI X1800XT? Not much faster than the GPU on the Xbox 360 but the 512MB GTX 7800 was selling for around $700 at the time. Also if th GPU on the Xbox 360 was more along the speed of the 256 MB version of the 7800 GTX, still the 256 MB 7800 GTX was almost the same price as the Xbox 360 Premium at the time.

DJP3000

What about the 8800 series?

Well the 8800 GTX was released at around the time the PS3 was released. It's about twice as fast as the GPU on the PS3 since the GPU on the PS3 is around the equivalent of the 7900GT. But then again, the PS3 is not competingagainst the PC, it's competing against the Xbox 360.

The point still is they are both slow choices for anyone with a real gaming PC.

For some games it is faster especially at 1080p. Oh and I'd also save money on the RAM. You only need 1333MHz:

Update DirectX and your drivers.

The mouse pointer only disappears when a game launches from the GWL Marketplace...and it works normally the rest of the time.

Then its probably a GFWL glitch.

I was looking around the internet to see what the GPU equivalent is of the 360/PS3 and I came across this detailed thread:

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/247701-33-what-graphics-card-xbox360-equivalent

So the 360 is equivalent to a X1950 and the PS3 to a 7900+. The onboard memory for the 360 is also miniscule. Now I really can't see why people buy consoles when their hardware is generations behind a PC. Sure, consoles are only built for games and optimised for them without the overhead of an OS, but still, that old obsolete hardware? No wonder PC's are graphically superior. My 6870 would easily murder any current console game. So what do the console fanboys say to that?

When making a console game, you have the advantage to know exactly what hardware your game will be used with, letting you get as much power out of that hardware as you can.

On a PC game, you have tons of hardware configurations that could be used, making the PC game much less optimized and requiring greater hardware requirements.

Freshenizer

Really? The game relies on the API - DirectX - and doesn't interface with the hardware. Its unoptimized because of sloppy developers. And what power in a console? The technology is 3 years old. Some power.

Waste of money. Use Microsoft Security Essentials and buy a game off steam or 3 with the saved cash.

ionusX

half true.. security essentials is SOOO easy to violate.

id sooner recommend he pull his teeth out and use them as leverage should his pc ever come under attack :P

AVG while it is the most ungodly thing on the planet still works okay..i recommend pairing it wil malware bytes or super anti-spyware and a user friendly firewall such as microsoft defender.

also consider getting a 64-bit os if you dont have one already.. their harder to write code for and are 98% invincible to rootkits. to crack windows vista, server 08, or 7 with a rootkit if its an x64 system is nearly impossible and their pants easy to remove if they do occuer as they sacrafice so much to get at that kernel.

Unless the OP visits interesting websites, MSE's chastity will be preserved.
