You phrased it as a question and actually managed a comment without cussing my entire family (a rare thing these days) so I thought you were being serious.
@Devil_wings00: Sorry but business is business. They have to make ends meet. People cost of a lot of money.
Just think about it. One employee per store demoing VR. Of which there are 600+ across the UK (according to Wikipedia). All being paid in excess of a grand a month. We're talking £600,000+ a month MINIMUM just to demo VR.
All to give people a chance to try something they may not even end up buying.
They would have to sell 1700+ headsets just to make their money back on the demos. Which is easier said than done with the current state of VR.
I hate greedy businesses as well but I think I'd charge to demo these things as well looking at the costs.
@sladakrobot: Depends on the quality of the upscaler and what resolution you are upscaling from.
Last gen upscaling from 720p (or lower) to 1080p was an improvement. Even with the shitty upscaler with crushed blacks and artefacts all over the place because 1080p is a significant improvement over 720p.
Native 4K is less obvious in the first place. I've seen 4K and honestly I wasn't impressed at all. The colours are nice but that is about it. I think what is most likely happening is people are starting to realise that 4K is overrated for the average living room.
Even with a great upscaler it doesn't detract from the fact 4K isn't that impressive on a screen less than about 80 inches.
@Devil_wings00: I think it is more likely they need someone near the display to wipe the sweat off after each use and set up the demos when people can't see with the headset on.
