I notice you're from Canada (Ontario like me!), unfortunately we cannot download movies or rent movies from the Marketplace. Currently that feature is only available in the USA. The Elite does have the HDMI cable though so if you have a TV capable of HDMI I would still recommend the Elite.

Good luck finding an Elite... they seem to have disappeared lately...

EDIT: I see you're not interested in HD at all so scratch my point. Also you cannot rip movies to your hard drive.

I've never been to an EB that I liked... until I walked into the one where I live now. Great conversation with both staff members, they knew what they were talking about, they informed us of their trade-in deals (we were trading in 3 games). We ended up trading in more games than we were going to initially but ended up with Forza 2 and 2 pre-ordered copies of Halo 3. Awesome non-pushy gaming staff!

As for the original topic, I rarely pre-order but it does annoy me when staff attempt to talk me out of a game. Or when tell me that "he won't like it" when they think I'm buying an FPS for someone else because they can't fathom that I'll be the one playing it. I used to sell games at Toys R' Us and would talk parents out of buying crap for their kids... but I believe that's different.

Putting "cheque book" in quotations was not because of the spelling, I'm Canadian it's cheque here too. I was referring more to the fact that someone bought something with a cheque in this day and age. I remember my Mom doing that, but in the 80's.

Congrats on the 360! It is weird that the store didn't give you a receipt with the date on it. After you talk to Boots, if they are unable to give you a receipt with a date on it, call MS support and see what they say.
