define what a video game is. I looked in a couple of dictionaries and found no mention of the one true medium, wikipedia's take on it was so vague this web site or a cell phone counts so I sat down and thought what makes a video game a video game. Well here's the answer: it requires these two criteria be met, 1st it must have game play; by that I mean it has a set of tasks/activities with clearly defined goals (points, destroy this base, capture their flag, etc), 2nd it must be either impossible in real life or ridiculously dangerous.

Now that means there are titles that get labeled as video games but aren't really. nearly every sports title to date isn't a video game, more they're just simulators. Everything Will Wright has produced isn't a video game either, even Spore may turn out to be just another simulator. Now three other well known developers have created games Peter Molynux (last name probably miss spelled, we can thank him for fable and balck and white), Sid Mieir (we can thank him for the Civilzation series), Brian Reynolds (we can thank him for Alpha Centuari and Rise of Legends). Their titles fit the defination, not to mention they are actually fun, but other titles that try and claim they're video games is an afront to real video games. Oh and the US army has made a couple but try and call them simulators, for PR reasons of course, even though they fit the definition.

I was about 16 or 17 and I jacked a whole bunch of grass plants from the neighbor's grow op, now it's been nearly ten years since then and I gave that kind of crap up, crime just doesn't pay.

I don't know who suggested any game selling 5 million copies as normal but that doesn't happen all that often. But yeah consoles are defenately better, I hear more and more console games selling 1 million+ copies but not very many PC games even reach that mark. /\madexponent PC gamers are often shorter on games either because they're aren't that many available near one or because of some BS hardware issue. I and the guys at a local EB games have noticed lots of trouble playing PC straight out of the box becuase of disk read errors, I never get that with any of my consoles.

These sales numbers only confirm what I've said for years: why spend $3000+ on a game machine when you can spend X

I personally found twilight princess the best, with ocrina of time trailing very close behind, then I would say phantom hour glass, next majora's mask, then links awakening, fallowed by link to the past, and last wind waker. I haven't been able as of yet to try the others.

The west's RPGs tend to have better gameplay, in my opinion but not enough sci-fi stories. The japanese RPGs tend to have pretty borring gameplay and some of the stories are really quite spectactular, still in my opinion. But ultimatly either genre still only have a few gems and the rest are meh, again my opinion but I think most would agree with this last veiw.

Zh666 /\ what the BS are you talking about, the WRPGs tend to have more verity in the gameplay, more sub-types, and the stories are often better. JRPGs tend to be too slow paced, and derivitive crap. The one JRPG that I felt was really outstanding was FF VII, and many of the WRPGs you listed were really sweet.

Do you want StarCraft II for your 360, then let's get together and petition Blizzard to make a 360 version. 360StarCraft II would rockand we all know it, now let's make sure Blizzard knows. WHO'S WITH ME?
