[QUOTE="04dcarraher"][QUOTE="xboxiphoneps3"]

as the title says, i turned of HT because i was curious to see if it improves my performance in games like BF3 and stuff... what i noticed was that the CPU usage went from like 50% ish with HT on to around 85% cpu usage with HT off...

i tested BF3 and i feel like i get better minimum FPS.... is the higher cpu usage because of that? the games actually using more of the 4 physical cores instead of it being spread across physical and logical cores?

ALSO... im using razer game booster and it says my mainboard temperature is at 82C right now?  is that even right?

HT is totally dependent on each core usage on each 1st thread which means that if 90% of cpu cycles are going to the 1st thread the 2nd thread only gets 10% of the left over cycles to use. Which is why HT is a hit or miss mainly a miss, and also with BF3 when it first came out HT caused alot of issues because BF was treating those 2nd threads as real cores and putting normal workloads on them . People had fps and stuttering issues until it was patched. Now if your mobo is at 70C+ time to reapply thermal tape or paste to the mobo's heatsinks

im about to reapply some artic silver on my i7 920.... its had the same dry stock paste from Dell since i got the computer LOL...the artic silver will defitnetly help bring temperatures down alot on my CPU...runs at like 56 C on load in battlefield 3, which will also make everything inside my computer cooler aswell

how much to do actually put on when you reapply the paste? Im thinking of doing so really soon

gaming with a high end gpu card in 1080 is fine, that means that you can max out everything which is the point of the highend cards!

its an okay CPU, nothing to write home about, but probably will do the job just fine.

The GPU is pretty good and will not disappoint.     Some games you might get some bottlenecking from the CPU, but otherwise you should be good to go.

Make sure you read  how much Power the GPU will require so check to see if your Power Supply Unit has enough juice.

can you explain the bottle neck with a cpu at 4 gz with 8 cores??

I building my own gaming pc it hard to know who to go with nivida or Amdrobbie80
AMD for sure , they are more reliable in terms of quality and give the best performance bar none ..I got amd and never had issue ;]
