@Joedgabe Well, if you're in your twenty something's, there may come a time in the not too distant future when you'll eventually get married and have kids, then it all comes back and, in some ways, be even better than the first time around.

@Drkoolbeanz @captaincrispy Yeah, I get that, but any thought I had of getting a 3DS XL for Christmas this year (of which was pretty much a given) is completely out of the question now, so I guess those who don't follow the news will be the ones mopping up the remnants of the current iteration before the new one hits...

For the tuppence it's worth, I reckon it would have been better to release the new XL version for those that wanted it and cut a real class bundle deal to liquidate the older XL version, something like $120.00 and come with Mario Kart 7 or Super Mario 3D Land or something.

@Vexov It always sucks to be at the tail end of a product just before a new one is launched, it's not Nintendo specific. There are so many 3DS' out there that I do not believe it will be a major overnight shift to making games only for the new upgraded version, and all the current titles will play just the same so it's not like the machine is dead, but still...

I would like for someone to explain why this was not scheduled for release for this Christmas in North America. I can't imagine why anyone would want to buy a current iteration when this is just around the corner, it's not like these kinds of updates are yearly or anything.

The only thing I can think of is that there is no games that can launch with it just yet, but it's not like the new features don't benefit the older games too, or the North American market just has too much inventory out there still.

@Redsyrup I advocate you look at your use of the term 'free ride' in the context you used it in, and reevaluate the appropriateness of the usage while taking into account its correct definition.
