If your computer can support the TV well. If you can play Counter-Strike Source at that resolution (for 1080i/1080p, 1920x1080), and many other games like that, you should have no problem. Most cards nowadays support HDTV, and can play HDTV quite well.

1. I want to be able to play games that aren't on the PC, or play ports that suck a bunch of crap on the PC

Live is good, but you can't beat the PC when it comes to community.
