Just get the system that has the games that you want to play.  If the 360 has a lot of games that you like and those games are out now, then get a 360.  Same logic goes for the PS3.  There is no point to buy a system with expectations of good games to come.  You may as well hold off until those games are actually out.  You may even get the system at a lower price the longer you wait.

For me, I've had a 360 for a couple of years now and I've been really happy.  I just got a PS3 a few days ago mainly for it's Blu-Ray capabilities and DVD upscaling.

considering my tv is a sony bravia and have a good hdmi cable so no, and yes i have only one blu-ray disk and it does not look better than dvd, that is what i was saying and that from that expirence of a huge film not being formatted correctly or whatever i see no point in bluray. bob_geldof221

Well, admittedly, for some, image quality is very subjective. For me, though, I was pleasantly surprised to see the quality difference between SD and HD. The first HDDVD I watched was Happy Feet. It had the SD version on one side and the HDDVD version on the other. Watching the opening song in HD and then rewatching it in SD, the image was absolutely different. The cracks in the ice, the feathers on the penguins, just the overall clarity and the way the image "popped off" the screen was much more evident in HD. I wasn't a true believer before seeing that disc.

On the other hand, I watched Fearless the other day (yah, it was only in 720p because it was the 360's HDDVD player through component) and it didn't look "spectacular", it was nice, but it might not have been a huge difference between the HD version and an upscaled SD version.

Overall, I've been very happy with the format. Having both a PS3 and a 360 add-on, I get the best of both worlds, though I'll probably buy more Blu-Ray's now that I have a 1080p player (PS3).

My tv is a 50" Sony A2000.  At that size, maybe it is easier to see a difference in the quality?  A smaller LCD may not show the difference as readily as a bigger picture?

i watched casino royale (free from sony) bluray on my hdtv and thought it looked pap, not long after i watched my dvd copy of king kong and thought kong was far better quality so there you go..........bar games i can see no use for bluraybob_geldof221

So, after watching one movie, you've decryed all other hd dvd's?  If you look at reviews for Casino Royale, it's not the absolute best picture you can get.  Though, if you can't honestly see the difference between an HD dvd and a SD dvd, then you need a new tv or better cables.

HD dvds provide better video and better sound.  I didn't think I would be able to truly tell the difference, but watching the HDDVD version of King Kong compared to the SD version, the difference is immediately obvious.  I actually just go the PS3 yesterday for the sole reason of using it as an upconverting DVD player (instead of getting the HDMI with the 360 Elite) and Blu-Ray player (well, I'll probably grab resistance).

Just as with SD DVDs, there are crap quality HD DVDs.

Yah, I am a 360 owner, but I'm going to crack and get a PS3 next week.  With the new update out today, upscaling DVD's over HDMI, I've cracked.  Add in Blu-Ray, in addition to my HDDVD add-on for my 360, I'll be in "high-def heaven".  I'll also be able to remove some clutter by getting rid of my PS2.

Other than Resistance, are there any other PS3 games worth picking up (for a 360 owner)?  Anything from the PS3 online marketplace thing?

why doesnt it up scale through componettagh200

Specifications of the component cable do not allow upscaling with them.  Look it up with google.  It's been mentioned many times.

[QUOTE="-ZeRoHouR-"]Since we are on the HD-DVD subject, is it worth a purchase??? Just wondering since I have a $100 gift card at BestBuy and I was thinking of using it on that (which would make it only cost $100 for me.)ProjectPat187
put it this way the HD-DVD add on was one of the best purchases I have ever made, do urself and favor and get it u will not regret it and plus all u would have to spend is a hundred dollars man thats a steal deal, what u waiting for

Absolutely agree.  If you like watching movies, it's definitely a good price.  Heck, I don't care if it loses the format war.  Eventually, there will be players that play both formats, so you will not lose out.  I didn't think there would be that much of a difference when I bought mine, but it was instant "wow" when I plugged one in.  Even my non-geek wife instantly noticed the increased clarity.

Display Resolution: WVGA (854 x 480)

Pretty sure if you want 720p then you need a device that displays 1280x720  not 854 x 480.  Looks like the device supports widescreen resolutions, but not HD resolutions.  Visuals might be okay, but not worth the price, if you ask me.  Spend a little more and get a better projector.

The problem is occuring because of the vga cables. The cables are known to cause washed out colors on lots of tv's and pretty much all monitors. Not much you can do except change your settings to try and compensate. As for clarity, you cannot run at your monitors native resolution (1650x1080) so there will be a slight haznizess to the image. I found that 1280x1024 Widescreen looked best on my 20.1 inch monitor. Give it a try.Endgame_basic

Hmmm....washed out colours?  Not on my Viewsonic 22" widescreen.  As for the resolution, just be sure to choose the resolution that is 16:10 (1650x1080) ratio.  Shot in the dark because I'm at work, but I'm pretty sure it's 1280×800?  I don't notice the blurring when playing on my screen.

You desktop resolution is probably different from the resolution you are using with Call of Duty.

Thought I'd pipe in here. I just bought an HD-DVD drive this last weekend and got the combo disc Happy Feet. Wow, what a difference between the standard def and HD version. I didn't think the difference would be so great.

As for whether HD-DVD will lose or not. I really don't care. The add-on was only $200 (cdn), not much. I am a member of an online rental place that rents HD-DVD's (they actually have more HDDVD's than Blu-Rays). The picture quality blows away regular DVD's.

The way I view it, $200 now for HDDVD's to last me until the format war settles on a winner. When that day arrives, or until a good dual format player comes on the market, I'll enjoy my HDDVD's. I could go buy a PS3 for Blu-Ray, but that seems like a much bigger investment in a possibly failing format than the HD add-on for the 360.
