@Pelezinho777: wrong type of hdr. You are referring to pseudo shader hdr in game engines. This has been around for over a decade. The hdr in this article is referring to meta data outputted to display HDR10. The display has to be hdr compatible, the information is deeper in colors, and has higher brightness in localized areas of the screen. You can't just enable hdr with mods, it requires developer support, or an engine with the ability built in. Unreal engine is only just barely implementing broad support for hdr display output. Again this is separate from the shader "effect" of hdr that only copies the similarities of true hdr, this is hdr10.

maybe this will pressure the devs to build the game faster now, now that unity 5 is almost out and the pressure of a console release, this game should move along faster now. I know people on steam are starting to get impatient with the updates so far which is basically only one content update since its release in august.

@KBABZ I don't think that is going to be a problem. This is about the ability to make games look photorealistic for the ones that want to, not change all art direction for every video game.

@xantufrog Movie Reviewers use this term all the time with almost no Flak, Why is it not the same with games without people whispering death threats?

@WolfgarTheQuiet @xantufrog So If I say that Destiny is a copy paste Fps without a soul or coherent story that requires mindless grinding to progress all while trying to be a weird combination of halo and an mmorpgfps thingy, but I tell you its a great game 9.5/10, am I butchering it or being truly honest with you but in a lying through my teeth kind of way. For some people certain flaws matter more than others. To me the moment I saw the word grind I knew I was never going to get this game. To other reviewers they claim fallout new vegas or oblivion is a horrible game deserving a 6/10 because they can't forgive or let go of game glitches. If you knew you would love the game even before you bought it you will tolerate the flaws no matter what and enjoy the beautiful and 10/10 world that was created, but if you have never played a Bethesda game it might make you want to get a refund because of the game breaking 4/10 bugs. Reviews are still supposed to be someones opinions you know right. And just because a bunch of mediocre (to him) games have come out in a row doesn't make it his fault.

@WolfgarTheQuiet I tend to think of it more as he is saying, "Whats new here" Nothing sets drive club apart. He didn't say it lacked everything, just everything that mattered to a new game trying to impress people. Its like trying to justify grid 2 and grid autosport, if you have never ever played a grid game its a decent place to start with the newer ones now, but if you have already played the first one it is pretty easy for me to recommend to you to avoid the copy paste clones of the sequels. In them there is almost nothing new to the formula.

Just because a game hits all the require checkmarks to exist within its genre doesn't make it any better than mediocre. If games were not supposed to innovate we would have stopped with mariokart nes and goldeneye 64 and just made different artistic skins for those games. So part of reviewing games is a balance between checking the marks (all that were established by previous new ideas in older video games) and introducing and refining better ideas.

Look at why Shadow of Mordor has received so much praise. The Nemesis System. Guess what? Games are going to be trying to do that from now on, and soon it will be the standard to be reviewed and compared to. Without that nemesis system the game probably would have been passed off as another assasins creed clone set to lord of the rings theme. To me drive club (and any other game that doesn't innovate) is a perfect example of a Walmart game. You have it as the running preview demo to please and interest the lowest denomination who do not know any better "ouuuuuu, pretty cars, do they race? you know like on a track, that is also pretty? I want".

No one gets upset when each new transformers movie continues to get bashed in the head by movie reviewers. So then, why does every game have to have a 7 or above or else the reviewer is being unfair. And yes I think reviews should be as full and detailed as possible, but if someone brings me a whole cake and gives me a slice that tastes like Cra.p I'm not going to need to eat the whole cake in order to let someone else know that they don't need to eat it because it tastes bad.

@Stebsis @Blackened_Halo @hitomo I mostly, Vanishing of Ethan Carter is on of my new favorite games, but I feel it only excels in static graphics It takes away my breath for sure at every turn, but I feel while it excels at being static, games like Crysis 3 and Need for Speed Rivals are Shader Intensive. Ethan Carter is all about the textures and the perfect but static atmospheric tweaking. While Crysis 3 has impressive water reflection effects, explosions, and intricate lighting systems that all bounce around and change the environment. I also Feel crysi 3 also pulled off some amazing breathtaking ethan carter moments. Do your self a favor and go the the last level on Crysis 3 and just look in every nook and cranny. The part where the hole in the surface and shining through and has pouring water down through it just took me back. I had to stop playing for 5 minutes and just look at it. I like them both, but in different categories. Just like I think Machinarium and Broken Age has some of the best graphics out there but it is only 2d and is more of an art than raw graphics power and umph. Sorry hope it don't sound like a debate, I'm just thinking aloud.
