such a nice selection of hd movies on xbl, you rent it for the same price as you would a blockbuster or cable papperview, in my oppinion this beats having to buy a blueray player and then buying movies, or even renting movies. its like an ondemand service but with hd content, its a miracle for people who dont have or can get cable or on demand services. You order a movie, it buffers the download for about 10 mins and then you can start watching, all in widescreen hd

The HD movies from XBL are HD, not a compressed 750 MB file or even a compressed 4.87 GB (down from DL 8.5 GB) or even a compressed 8.5 GB file, down from uncompressed HD files. The movies that you download are no where near the quality of when you buy it and if you are downloading it and it takes up a whole 44.05 gb you may get the same quality but that really eats into harddrive space.

Oh wow, you better stop now, bud. You do know what HD/DVD and Blu-Ray are right? They are simply a larger medium to carry all that uncompressed data. The only reason you would need a Blu-Ray player would be to play those discs, not the movies they carry. And HDMI is largely a copy-protection scheme, nothing more.

You are serioulsy clueless they are a larger medium to store movies in 1080p that is simply not possible on a DVD-9 you cant hold 2 hours worth of film in 1080p quality no matter how you compress it the max a DVD can hold on 9gb is about 3 hours worth of film. And no HDMI isnt just copyright protection that is some of the purose yes it also devlievers superior video and audio quality over VGA or component cables so stop acting like everything is a gimmick .

When did I mention DVD? I said I could download them on my PC just fine because it's just data. It's just more data than a DVD can handle, hence the HD-DVD/BluRay discs. HDMI does offer a very slight upgrade in video quality, but it's not even noticeable on monitors under 40-50 inches. It's real purpose is HDCP, the new copy-protection scheme. Corporate media publishers are wanting to get rid of the "analog hole". Which is fine by me, really. I like how HDMI puts audio and video in one cable, and I don't pirate, so it's all good. But the way some people think it's this huge revolution in A/V is laughable.

No but you were defending the hermit who says" I can just get teh downloaded hd movie on teh pc" Fact is you can do that and its still not going to be quite the same quality as BR or HD-DVD and its going to take up a ton of Harddrive space. No BR isnt a revolution but is a nice peace of technology and I think it will work well for games as time goes on.

This all started when some dude said you CANT dl HD movies via bittorrent.  Yes you can...full stop.  I cant provide links as they wouldnt work for ppl who arent members of said sites.  And besides I wouldnt want to as its against the rules of this site and the "other" sites.  Is the quality the same???  Dunno really but its so minor of a difference are we gonna argue between a few pixels or £££££.

Hhmm. I don't remember anyone saying that. Most people expected the PS2 would outsell the Dreamcast because the Dreamcast didn't have many developers for it. Plus the PS1 was hugely successful. The price was a bit high for the PS2, but Sony dropped the price just before the XBox was released and sales took off like a rocket. The XBox really didn't have a chance being released 1 year after the PS2 and having a higher price then the PS2. M$ dropped the price of the XBox just 6 months after release. Even though it sold better because of the price drop, the PS2 was miles ahead in sales. Launching in Japan was a joke because Japanese gamers already had the PS2 and with no must have Japanese titles to look forward to, the XBox was doomed to fail before it even launched in that market.

Trust me, I know everything about the past. I've been to the E3 when it was called the CES and was hosted in Chicago & Las Vegas. ;) Japanese aren't buying the XBox 360 because there's aren't enough Japanese type games for it and M$ isn't market it right for the Japanese market. There have been many Japanese developers who have said this in interviews. It doesn't help that most Japanese gamers are against American products anyways. Why do you think their government don't want America shipping their American cars to Japan & China. The only thing the Asian market likes from America is the iPod. I still don't think M$ needs the Japanese market to win the console wars. If they domination in the US, Europe and the rest of the world, they could win. It'll be tough, but it's not impossible.
