@marcsmashing: Which is weird, because the Witcher 3 wasn't all that great itself.

@bigrod69 @Ahiru-San @lek_zie And Apple created QuickTime in 1991 long before that, which was used for Myst. So there's a long history of QuickTime in gaming.

@busterfriendly Absolutely, they touted the nemesis system as somehow enhancing the game... but it really doesn't do that at all. Instead of well-developed characters with a backstory and unique personality like you get in Batman games, you get some random named orcs that have nothing to do with the story whatsoever but that get in your way whenever you try to get from point A to point B to progress what little this game has in the way of a story :-\

A game set in Middle-Earth should have much more depth than this does. If a game based on a comic book makes a game based on literary masterwork look like trash, that's just wrong.

@jmc88888 @slainta Good luck finding a GPU with 8 GiB of RAM anytime in the next year. You'll have to buy 2-3 GPUs for that.

@PrpleTrtleBuBum @STrugglingFool That is a weird waste of a controller.

I have 3 wireless Xbox 360 controllers, and I often use at least one of them without a battery pack altogether. Just plug in the charging kit and it will draw all the power it needs from USB, even if there is no battery hooked up.

@dmfreak

You buy software licenses, not the actual game itself. That is why the PC version of games is usually $10 less, since the publisher doesn't have to pass the price THEY paid to license the privilege to publish the game on a console onto the consumer.

If you are truly broke, you should look into PC gaming. You can get non-transferable Steam licenses for many games for pennies on the dollar, especially during summer sales; games you would buy used on a console for ~$30 may sell for as little as $5.00.

@bourne714 They might have to start paying a license fee for rented video games... just like Hulu and Netflix have to pay license fees per-stream.

In all honesty, they would probably pay a bulk license fee and distribute rental keys to their subscribers along with their discs in the mail.

In a way, that almost reminds me of the original Circuit City DivX DVD rental system... where the disc was only licensed for 24-48 hours and would fail to read any time after that. If they distributed a time-limited or online unlocked rental key with the disc, you wouldn't even have to send the disc back.

@Ultimist @andon13 @racerxgundam @mariomaster16

This fee already exists though, is my point. Day 1 DLC (~$9.99) and online passes (included if you buy the game new ~$5 otherwise) are shoved down our throats. These practices are in response to used game sales.

If they called it what it really was, and didn't charge people who buy the game new an additional fee after the initial point of sale (day 1 dlc), that'd be great.

@racerxgundam @mariomaster16 Isn't that what the conservatives constantly yammer on about taxes? And for the most part, the honest ones continue to pay them?

Honest gamers should not have a problem with paying an additional fee for a used game. The publisher / developer needs to be compensated one way or another, right now the practice is DLC that should have been included with the game to begin with, and online passes.

Like it or not, these fees already exist. A flat fee for re-sale would be preferable to publishers jacking up the price for people who buy the game NEW to get the content that should have shipped on the disk...
