I'm not sure there has been enough time between Sony/Polyphony knowing there's a huge demand/supply issue with PS5 (well most tech currently) for them to port it to PS4. Polyphony are slow at developing at the best of times. From previous form I was seriously expecting way more delays with GT7 than we got so I don't think they had to change their plans.

Anyway, the PS4 version apparently runs great. They use lower draw distances and much lower quality/quantity foliage in scenery along with checkerboard 1800p to achieve a smooth 60fps.

Yeah pretty sure they will remove it eventually. I've made a comment above with my thoughts but essentially I think this game is going to be a very popular Esports game so they need a good anticheat system and you can only race cars online that you have earned in single player so they don't want people using cheats to get the best cars. And they don't want people hacking the save data to change the spec of cars beyond the limits of the vanilla game (which happened a lot with GT5 at one point which ruined the game for me).

Back to your point though, I think it was GT6? that needed to connect online if you wanted to use any DLC parts of the game to ensure you obtained it legitimately. They removed that DRM check when GT Sport came out. So yeah I reckon they'll remove it here once it's no longer a top Esport game, likely on the lead up to GT8 coming out.

To go against the grain here I can see where they are coming from (Not saying their solution is ideal though). Cheating is what put me off GT5 in the end. It got to the stage where every online race I entered had cheaters with insanely fast cars which ruined the experience.

Thing is there is a connection between single player and the online game as generally you can only race cars online that you have earned in single player and it can take a long time to earn a decent amount of credits. So if people are cheating to get the best cars with the best upgrades then that would give them an unfair advantage online. Or, as with GT5, they may find a way to tweak the save data to artificially change the spec of cars beyond the normal limits of the game. This will no doubt will be a very popular esports game so they must have a robust anti-cheat system.

I dunno, I'm getting to the stage where I think my console and PC are constantly connected to the internet anyway, And the moment there is a "No internet connection" message i start fiddling with wires etc trying to get it connected again, so it seems hypocritical of me to say that I wont play because it needs a constant connection. But no doubt there will be people with terrible ISP's that have regular down time that this will cause issues for so it's a shame they can't find another way.

@storjohan_:

All sims have their quirks. To me ACC and it's predecessor have a bit too much under-steer, like the tyres haven't warmed up even after multiple laps on a dry track.

Personally I loved PCars 2 on PC, even then the physics and FFB didn't make full sense until I started racing in VR then it felt awesome to drive and every little bump coming through the wheel felt spot on.

GT7 has the potential to be a more realistic driving experience than ACC but I'm yet to try GT7 and the difference can partially be down to personal taste and driving style.

Yeah GT is all about the love of cars. Every car is modeled in meticulous detail. Even the stitching on the upholstery is identical to the real thing. If you own the car in real life you're supposed to be able to look all around the in game car and inside and it should be the same.

As such they're not keen on destroying the vehicles they so carefully crafted. In some of the previous games damage was added later but even then is wasn't that drastic. So yeah, you won't be seeing any big explosions here

You might be thinking of the new AI driver system. Or Sophy as they're calling it. That has yet to be added to the game and could be for online races only.

I think huge open worlds can be given some slack too as long as the problems aren't major. The pop in I noticed wasn't that bad. As I approached a town (after a long sprint on horse back I may add) the guards at the gate and some villagers behind them, along with some buildings (most buildings were already there though) popped into view. it was a little distraction over in a second, nothing bad. Something many open world games suffer from, That can still happen occasionally in Witcher 3 and is pretty common in Kingdom Come Deliverance, both on PC.

I watched SkillUps review and he experienced some pretty bad pop-in in one of the big cities but I went around the same place and saw no pop in. And I've played a further 5 or 6 hours now and not seen any more pop in.

I dunno, I guess once it gets to a state where they think the majority can play through and only experience a couple of minor bugs then they release it. I guess it almost doesn't matter how many play testers they have some things may slip through. The best chance of catching all the little bugs is to get it out there so millions are playing it and wait for reports to start coming in and fix them.
