Ok, the expansion pak isn't storage, it is memory. You're right. It is still something Nintendo overlooked with the original design of the N64. Nintendo should have included more memory to begin with.

Every console maker makes sacrifices when it comes to RAM, as more is pretty much always better.

I think they are giving third parties a little bit of a chance on WiiWare before they release their stuff. I personally think that is a good idea and will help show that 3rd parties can be succesful on the service. Lost winds looks really interesting and I am definitely gonna try it out tonight.

Has it ever occured to you that many of the games on the PS3 and 360 do not have stable framerates, yet Super Mario Galaxy and Brawl have excellent graphics and run at a solid 60FPS?

Fireball2500

Go play COD 2 on 360. Only once in over 20 hours of gameplay did I see a framerate drop, and it was only for 2 seconds. You'll see what an accomplisment it is when you play it, since it's at 60 FPS.

Nice that you skip COD3 and COD4 both of which are known to be operating at sub 720p resolutions to allow for a more stable framerate.

I meant native 720p. i can take a 10x10 pixel image and put it on my HDTV in 720p, image is still 10x10.

My point is that Wii can't handle having to produce 720p NATIVE images.

And if you think those games look good comapred to actual HD titles, you are missing something. Next you'll tell me there's no difference in DVD to blu-ray

The_Dan_K

Go play COD4 on 360 or PS3 and tell me it looks bad because it is upscaled. Looks horrible right?

I played the ball balancing and ray surfing bits with my friends while drunk. That had to be some of the best times I've had without my pants on.Son_of_Some
I hope you mean with your pants on, otherwise the ball balancing thing takes on a whole new meaning, and I feel very sorry for your friends.

I used to be blind to XBL. I had an original Xbox for 4 years and a 360 for over a year until I ponied up the $50 fee. I will never regret that decision. I can keep in constant contact with my friends all over the world now without a hitch. Playing games like Halo and Call of Duty with friends is priceless. I owned a PS3 for a short time but no one was chatting and my friends wouldn't buy one. I will contnue to pay the XBL fee gladly since I would spend more than that in long distance costs talking on the phone to my friends overseas and across country. Oh yeah, and I have the camera also which makes it seem as though they are there with me. Very cool.fanboy999

It is your internet connection that allows you to be in touch with your friends overseas. Try paying your Live membership and not paying your internet bill and see how useful Xbox live is.

DOUBLE STANDARD.

Just because its better than PSN, doent mean its better than the free services found on this PC, making that a moot point.

Deihmos

I think the TC was referring to the PSN and did not mention anything about the PC. Someone tried to inject Steam into the discussion for some strange reason.

The topic title is " Xbox Live Features are worth the money" so someone bringing up a free service with the same features is kinda relevant.

It is not about whether the features are worth $50 a year or whether you are willing to pay $50 a year for them, the issue is that Xbox Live would still exist whether you paid the money or not. Microsoft need MP gaming to make the 360 a viable platform, and yet they charge a subscription fee for access to their platforms number one selling point.

How many people are still playing Perfect Dark? How many Perfect Dark pro tournaments do you see anymore? Compare to Counterstrike - a game that is still played by hundreds of thousands of gamers, and has major tournaments every week. I have a LAN center down the street that does CS 1.6 tournies with a $200 entry fee every week, as well as CS 1.6 as part of MLG.

Perfect Dark survives on nothing more than nostalgia - an older game - CounterStrike topped it in the long run, both in longevity and in qualiity.

-

What the TC is saying is that these games are nothing special by modern standards and you know what? He is 100% correct. People hold new games hostage to titles they haven't played in a decade, based on childhood impressions of some favorite game, then when people point out the faults they say "you have to consider it for its time". You know what? You don't - you're demanding a double standard where some old game can be "better" than a modern game, yet we're not allowed to objectively compare them.

subrosian

But counterstrike is the perfect example of an old game (8 years old) that people consider better than things that have come after it. It may lack certain things that more modern FPS have but the things it does do are drilled to perfection. Plenty of old games survive as classics to this day due to the restrictions put in place by the hardware requiring developers to hone specific areas of the game to perfection. Modern games do a whole lot more, but due to this they can't have the same level of polish as games of old. Super Mario Galaxy may be a better game overall than SMB3 but there are no platforming areas in SMG as perfect as those in SMB3 for example.

Almost definitely false. Its a rumor from a single poster on the penny arcade forums with absolutely nothing to back it up.
