I found the Gamescom trailer a lot more attractive than the space dogfight trailer I saw a while back. The game's tech seems to be coming along nicely. There is a nice nexus between traditional multiplayer collaboration, first person immersion, vehicles, and adventure. The infrastructure looks solid.

Here is a thought. Is it possible to have a level constructor for players? I don't mean a toolkit that requires a lot of technical know how to use. I mean an in-game mechanic that allows players to build their own bases (or as large as they have the time and in-game resources to build) and staff them with NPC of their choice. Players can offer missions that take place at bases made by other players. Most people can only play a few hours of games a day, but their legacy can persist all the time.

I hope Star Citizen will have a good motive force to get me to play. I am tired of existing MMO mechanics. Old mechanics can still play an important role, but I hope Star Citizen will offer something new.

Smell is an essential human sense. I don't know if Ubi is the best company to do it, but someone needs to take the idea of smell-in-VR and run with it. I guess the games haven't caught up with the need for smell, but the future of VR will definitely include all senses except taste.

As long as it's not a trilogy. The deus ex machina in Return of the King sucked so bad. I haven't watched the third Hobbit movie, but I hear the whole trilogy feels bloated.

I rather Bethesda did not retain creative control over a TES movie. They are game makers, not movie makers. They should lay down the rules so the movie universe stays consistent with the greater Tamriel lore, but otherwise let the movie pursue its own plot. It's a big world. I think it can accommodate a movie that is not tied into the games.

No need to bring up Doom. I went in expecting literally Hell on Earth, I mean Mars, but came away feeling just... sad. I don't how the makers thought it could have turned out given the source material. TES does not have that problem.

I see the server wipe as a no-issue. Don't the majority of online games wipe servers on official release? I got very excited when I saw that I don't need PS Plus to play online.

@Pipboy360: I don't think his purpose was to get a head start on his progress. Didn't someone get to the center of the game universe in like 30 hours? So I don't think this is a MMO where every hour of additional grinding matters.

@autocatbot12: I honestly do not see the harm of what video poster did. I recognize the game makers put a lot of effort into their game. They are perfectly within their rights to allege wrongdoing by the poster. I do not get in what way their exercising their right to take down the video is good for the rest of the public. I do not know what is disingenuous about my asking that question. We are not the same people. We do not necessarily share the same values.

I agree that it could be a problem if the gaming media got in the action, and reports about the leaked gameplay become difficult to avoid. For a more restrained news site like Gamespot, you might ask that they do not report on leaked videos.

I completely disagree with your blaming people's conscious acts against their own interest on the availability of things that assist in that act. People who knowingly and willingly watch the spoiler videos and then complain about how it ruined the game for them are the real disingenuous ones. I think it's crazy that others have to help people like that by withholding information from the general public, a great majority of whom either want to find out about the game or will not think twice about avoiding the videos.

My problem is with the attitude that "clearly all reasonably people must appreciate this issue from our perspective." I am not criticizing the devs for taking down the videos. They have IP rights and licensing rights to that content. As you say, they want to control the narrative. However, there is no shortage of hyped up, suck ass games. So, I think it is not unreasonable for people to say, without violating the devs rights, "we can't just take you at your word."

Ironic, since the video poster says he was trying to show how great the game is.

@darshie76: I generally agree with you. I still think it's important to get any different perspectives on this. There may be a good argument that we are missing.

@autocatbot12: I am confused about your reasoning. How does that guy's posting gameplay video ruin the game for people who want to have the best time possible? I admit a lot of set pieces in Uncharted or CoD are less amazing the second time, so I stay away from videos of those games.

I have high hopes for No Man's Sky, but not all surprises are pleasant. Two questions.

1. What can be spoiled about a procedurally generated, open world game?

2. Are there sanctioned reviews the delve substantially into the game to help with my purchasing decision?
