This idea working depends on the timeline. There are three alternative timelines outside the main chronology. While the alternative timelines do not seem to connect with the main chronology, they include some of the most popular games in the series. Also, there is something else to consider: that Link is most likely a reincarnation between some games, i.e. they are not always the same Link (Hero of Time, Hero of Men, Hero of the Wind, Hero of the Wild).

My wife and I finally finished Tears of the Kingdom about a month ago. In the last two games in the main chronology (BotW and TotK), we would agree that Link is basically a vehicle to push Zelda's story forward. The "Hero of the Wild" incarnation of Link definitely takes a bit of a backseat to Zelda. Here, Zelda being the central character would work. Link is still important though. At the very least, he should be the co-protagonist for the film adaptation.

With that said, the alternative Fallen Hero timeline games (The Legend of Zelda, Link's Awakening, A Link to the Past, etc.) hinge greatly on the "unlikely hero" and a "hero reborn" tropes (a reincarnation of the Hero of Time) and his journey to save the kingdom / Hyrule / Zelda / race of people. On this journey, Link finds himself, his purpose, and often truth, especially in A Link to the Past, which leads to Link's Awakening. Thus, the Links in these games are completely central to the plot. For a film version of these games, Link is the main protagonist.

Sure, why not? I'd love to see Ke Huy Quan again. His acting range was remarkable in Everything Everywhere All at Once. Added bonus is that he's also a martial artist and stunt coordinator. They could use an actor who understands how to move gracefully in a fight sequence. Maybe make him one of the Jedis.

@astrokidwell: I disagree. Society needs art, not just for culture and engineering, but also for our economy. One of the United States' largest export is the entertainment industry (music, film, television, print, and video games) -- with film and television being the largest in its cohort.

Case in point: our entertainment market is worth $660 billion, which is responsible for the largest chunk of our copyright industry, which brings in $2.2 trillion for our economy. As these corporations get richer (Netflix, Disney, etc.), they are also threatening to reduce jobs and wages with AI stand-ins, including claiming to own the actor's likeness in perpetuity or having AI writers in the writer's room. And, despite Netflix pulling in more profits in the last 3 years than before, writers and actors are making fewer residual income in the post-streaming boom than they used to. Mass job loss or reduced wages or labor displacement indirectly impacts us all.

This has nothing to do with creativity or quality or allowing people to realize their vision as the public release claims. Nobody wants soulless dialogue and generic plot lines from generative AI.

This is simply a way to truncate the labor force to maximize profits.

Sooner than later, this will be a question of morality for both the companies that produce and the consumers who buy.

I never got into Star Ocean series, but this remake looks really cool. Now I need to figure out if I need to play Star Ocean 1 to get into this one.

Black Flag is by far my favorite. Followed by AC2, Origins, and Odyssey.

Awesome review! I enjoy games that try to do something different with their narrative structure. Remedy always finds interesting ways to mingle some elements of horror, sci-fi, psychological thriller, and surrealism in their games like some macabre dystopian fiction. This one looks rather well done. Pretty amped for this one.

I'm here for it. I do sometimes wonder what the rest of the GameSpot staff thinks of certain games outside of the reviewer, especially when the review score causes a fervor, e.g. The Last of Us 1. I listened to the Spider-man 2 discussion through Spotify on my jog and the talk flowed very well. Looking forward to many more. If I can make a small suggestion: perhaps introduce the panel more explicitly so that the audience can put a name to the voice. I heard the names Jordan and Jean-Luc at the top, but I didn't know who was moderating until later in the segment. I suspect this segment was part of a longer recording session so maybe do the NPR thing where you reintroduce the panel per segment?

@ganondorf77: I get what you are saying about paywalls, but you are completely misinterpreting this event. These cosmetic items were created solely for this charity drive to promote gamers to give blood. You cannot earn them in game or buy them. When participants give blood they receive the items. And, if enough players give (see tiered threshold), ALL players -- including those who did not give blood -- get them for free. This isn't content you are missing. Your fight should be directed towards the Battle Pass, not with this charity cosmetic.
