@freedom01: I believe Mark Cerny said in the Road to PS5 that the list would likely come after launch. So we probably won't see it until early 2021, which other outlets will surely test before then.

@mogan: Correct. It sounds like they want developers to support the DualSense features and only have to build around one controller.

I'm curious if a developer could add support for DualShock 4 if their game doesn't use any new features and would benefit from more controllers, like a fighting game or a party game. I'm guessing they won't be able to, but that would be interesting.

To me, the question is if Sony will start adding their new first party games to a PlayStation Now tier. They already have a decent offering, but the big thing they are missing is getting new first party games on release and existance in more countries (namely, China). Their recent partnership with Microsoft to increase the cloud infrastructure indicates that they intend to expand the service more.

@xantufrog: To your point, if you line up the Series X controller over the DualSense, you can see that the angles of its shape and how much it dips in the center are still quite different. https://i.imgur.com/rrc5wKU.png

But if you line up the DualSense with the DualShock 4, they are actually quite close. https://i.imgur.com/PfIwsT3.png Now this doesn't account for changes in depth of the grips, but it still shows that the overall shape is more of a refinement than a redesign.

I'm pumped! I replayed the original up until Gold Saucer recently to prep.

I know there will be changes here, but I'm going to try to keep an open mind about them. Hopefully it will feel complete enough in its arcs and work as a solo Midgar game.

I don't blame studios for delaying. The summer and fall are going to be packed now.

@Barighm: Dragon Quest XI is a Square Enix game.

But don’t worry, I’m sure you have some excuse why your answer still counts and everyone else’s doesn’t. No need to spend the time.

@Barighm: Yoshinori Kitase and previous Square CEOs have talked about how they wanted to remake Final Fantasy VII but the staff availability and development costs were too high. It had been stated that they would not remake it unless they could either get the development down to just a year or found a way to make up for the high cost -- and that was last generation. Expectations and costs are even higher now.

@somberfox: If they developed it as a single game, it wouldn't be to the quality they are showing here. Otherwise, the development time would be too long to maintain the team or recoup the investment.

Maybe that would have been better; I can't say. But it wouldn't be the same.
