Sorry, but I can't side with you on this one. Games have just evolved with increasing technology. Obviously, there will be some who like that evolution, and some who don't. When you look at games like The World Ends With You and Braid, you see marvelous games that never could have been released all that time ago. Games like Halo and Gears of War let you feel like you're right in the middle of a sci-fi action movie. Sure, the focus has shifted away from "intelligent" gaming, but primarily because video games never really were meant to be "intelligent" in the way you're thinking. Can they deliver the emotional, thought-provoking plots of novels? Certainly. But figuring out the controls for yourself and trudging through the inconveniences of not having a map or something like that is just annoying, not "difficult", per se. Games haven't gotten easier; they've just gotten more convenient. There's still a "hard" setting on most games. Ever played Devil May Cry 4? Try playing that game on the hardest difficulty. It's absolutely insane.

To answer the topic of your thread, developers usually release certain games as download-only for one of three reasons:

1. The game isn't big and/or good enough to sell at full price, so digital distribution allows them to sell it for less. (Most common)

2. They want to bypass the huge costs of physical publishing and distribution. (Not as common)

3. In the case where the developer is or is owned by the same company running the download service, sometimes download-only games are released exclusively to said service in order to attract new customers to the service. Example: The new Mario vs. Donkey Kong game on DSiWare whose name eludes me. (Least common)

Paper Mario series for sure, as well as the Mario and Luigi RPGs on the handhelds.

k_smoove
The Mario RPGs are probably the least funny games I've played, made worse by the fact that they try so hard...

Unwrapping it, and dismembering in Dead Space...nothing says "you just got pwned" like footstomping each limb off. :P

Hey everyone. Just wondering if anyone knows a service better than GameFly. Even though they appear to be top-notch, the truth is that their poor game stock is driving me insane. Some examples: I had a queue of 30 games, and they gave me the 29th-ranked one. After this, I reduced my queue to 10 games, assuming that I'd at least get a game I wanted at the time that way. A week passed with no deliveries, and then they finally shipped my 8th choice game, despite the fact that its availability was "Low" and the 4 above it were "High".

I've had numerous instances like that and I'm really getting annoyed with it. Does anybody have an alternative, reliable service I could use? Thanks!!

Whoa. Someone bought a PS3 WITH Valkyria Chronicles? You have set the bar, sir/maam! Follow by example people. This poster is doing it right straight from the beginning!

Anyway, Disgaea 3 is an exclusive Strategy/RPG. Cross Edge as well, but it's pretty mediocre. There's a good number of RPGs coming out relatively soon though.

yokofox33
Haha, yes I did; it was one of the 6 or 7 games that motivated me to buy it, and I have to say it's worth every penny.

Also, Tales of Vesperia with additional content is on the way.

Oh, this is sweet. I only finished Tales of Vesperia halfway on my first go (since I was renting it through Gamefly and realized I was losing money since it's so freaking long!), so it'll be nice to go through again with added features. But, really? I was expecting there to be more RPGs on here...guess not, but oh well. inFAMOUS and Valkyria Chronicles are making it quite hard to regret my new system. :P
