Yeah, you really can't get more different. I saw Eagle Eye in theaters a while back and I loved it, and I also love Portal. But, they're not really similar at all except for the fact that they both feature a female AI and: *SPOILERS* They're both evil. :P *END SPOILERS*
I agree with Chrono Trigger, and I'll add Final Fantasy VI. After playing current-gen games, it's incredibly tough to get into the stories of retro 2D games.
The old, silent Sonic definitely beats Mario because he was actually cool.
New Sonic is like one of those 40 year old guys who went to your high school and told you not to do drugs, attempting to incorporate all the "hip lingo that those kids throw around nowadays" into his talk.
Yeah...I'm pretty sure the first official one was Tales of Phantasia (I might be wrong), but the early ones just don't hold up by today's standards. I recommend Tales of Symphonia or Tales of Vesperia; those are my favorites in the series so far.
Don't forget , Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor for DS and Tiger Woods '10 for Wii, both of which just released to a 9.0 on GameSpot. It's pretty nice how this summer there's actually new, good stuff to play.
