Thank you for your responses to my comments, guys. Perhaps "gameplay sophistication" was poorly-chosen wording for DOOM3. :-)

One of the aspects of DOOM3 that I appreciated was that even basic enemies could do a lot of damage, so it paid to proceed carefully, to have fallback positions, to use the environment and to use health packs, ammunition and armor wisely.

I must confess that I haven't played DOOM (2016) yet, but it looks as though being able to earn health from "Glory Kills" and ammo from chainsaw kills reduces the need for careful resource management. That's not necessarily a bad thing, especially since it it's clear that a return to the "run and gun" style was one of the designers' goals. It's just not my preferred style of FPS at the moment. That said, I may change my mind once I've tried the new game.

Am I the only one who actually liked DOOM 3 and its focus on horror and tension over frenetic action? While the new DOOM may be very impressive graphically, it seems like a step backwards in terms of gameplay sophistication. :-(

@ginyuman: I'm relieved to hear that I'm not the only one experiencing video playback issues. Every few seconds the video just freezes and leaves me waiting for tens of seconds for the next "installment".

That comes as a relief. So many keenly anticipated games have received poor reviews lately that, when I first saw the "10", I thought: "Oh sh*t. Uncharted 4 got 1.0".

@toast_burner: Thank you very much for confirming that those features exist in the single player game. It's been a while since I supported StarDock, but this game is increasingly looking like a "must buy". :-)

Does anybody know whether game this falls into the category of "pause-able" RTS games?

By "pause-able", I mean that it's possible to scroll the map, navigate the game interface and even issue orders while the single-player game is paused. (Example: Warhammer 40K Dawn of War, Age of Empires, Company of Heroes etc.)

A non-pause-able RTS game would be one in which all in-game commands, including even the ability to scroll the map, are unavailable when the game is paused. (Example: StarCraft, StarCraft II etc.)

@onlinevegabond: North Korea is the one true Korea. It's the Korea that didn't capitulate to a foreign occupier, embrace a puppet leader and become a garrison state for a foreign nation. North Korea's invasion of South Korea was a legitimate attempt to expel a belligerent vassal from the Korean peninsula. It was also a response to atrocities like the Jeju Island Massacre, which was committed by South Korea with the blessing of the US military.

Perhaps you ought to spend more time reading history and less time fantasizing about spitting in people's faces.

What's offensive about the game's premise is that it switches the roles of war-crime victim and war-crime perpetrator. The US military's bombing campaigns during the Korean War killed an estimated 4 million civilians on the Korean peninsula.

Perhaps the failure of the "Titan" project can be explained by the old proverb: "Too many cooks spoil the broth." Perhaps there were simply too many highly-accomplished people working on it!

@arkhenon: Me too! But I'm confident that, if there's anybody who can get to the bottom of the disaster and explain it in terms that GS users will appreciate, then it's Danny O'Dwyer. :-)
