@pointingmonkey: But that's what I'm saying. A game with 6/10 graphics and a 10/10 gameplay would never be as well received as a game with 10/10 graphics and 6/10 gameplay, especially not to the mass commercial market.
If we judged all products by their weakest link, how many films and games would suffer because they had a poor soundtrack?
@pointingmonkey: Except there are plenty of games and films and novels and whatever that have very weak links and still manage to get high scores. Deus Ex: HR was an incredible game but had painfully poor graphics and very badly boss battles, yet got all the deserved critical acclaim.
And also, not all aspects of a game are equal: I'll take gameplay and story over graphics anyday, and I suspect the vast majority of people would as well. Swap them around and you'll get a game that's received very differently.
I gotta say, though, that Scott's review of the game is so wrapped up in it's technical faults than that of the narrative, story and core concept of talking racism. I understand that technicalities and glitches and all that jazz are fundamental to a game, especially in an open world one, but I'm disappointed that this is what he decided to hone in on. The idea of being a mixed-race guy in the deep south and taking down the mafia perked my interest from the start and I don't understand the excellency of the narrative and story didn't overshadow the negative of the technical aspects. 6 isn't a terrible score, but from Scott's praising of the said story and world it doesn't add up.
I haven't played the game yet and I still will, but the review baffles me.
Cannot wait for this game. BUT, I have to finish Deus Ex: HD and The Witcher 3 first (yes, I know) before I can pick it up. But still, looking forward to it.
