There may be some valuable skills and intellects in those fat people. I doubt the hills will be providing everything you need to survive.

You can boil acorns and even clovers to eat. Hell you can make bread from clover flowers. Plenty of wild berries in these parts to pick from, and there's always ginger, curled dock, dandelions, pennycress and so on. Snares aren't difficult to set, so small game would be on hand.
I'd have no trouble eating as long as I could build a fire without detection. I suppose that's where a gas camping stove comes in.
Sounds good if you actually know how and have experience doing these things. However, small game animals don't typically have the all the necessary nutrients needed to survive.
The Japanese were bastards during WWII and some Japanese today are ignorant jackasses about it. But since their defeat, they've by and large kept their hands to themselves and have contributed a good deal to the world.
