But there's a flaw that hinders this thread TC.
You referenced the other thread.
Which means people had already started forming in their minds that this was some test to prove stereotypes wrong
And so all you had to do was choose the opposite of what clearly sounded "black."
[QUOTE="ghoklebutter"][QUOTE="SaintWalrus"] Actually, it is racist. By him pointing out that he has a preference for a certain race, he is ascerting that there are qualities specific to a certain race.Well, it sounds an awful lot like special pleading to say that he only prefers his own race, implying that he isn't actually racist. But perhaps there is a way to prefer one's race and still not be racist. I'm a little on the fence here. He's not even saying that he prefers being with his own race. He's saying that I'm going to be around whites and only whites. That's racist. That too.If he likes to hang out with white people more because they have personalities that he likes, that is racist.

I don't see much of a problem being more physically attracted to certain skin tones and whatnot.
Why else would many women tan their skin in a society that values that over paleness.
What I do have a problem with is when you start slapping generalizations onto skin and thinking that everyone in that skin tone acts that way and so you prefer to be with an identifiable skin tone
The problem is as human beings, we tend to stay with the flock.
If you grow up in a one-race community, it might be difficult for you to go outside of your comfort zone.
But riddle me this.
Do you really want to lock yourself away from the rest of the world and all of its glory?

And even fall in love with people outside of your race. When you hang out only with your own race, you are doing yourself a HUGE disservice by locking away all of the potential goodness that comes from going outside of that zone and meeting all kinds of people.
You shouldn't see people as rows of boxes labelled by race. You should see them all in one box labelled Human. And when you get some bad people, what do you do? You take them out of the box and stay away from them. With no attention to race whatsoever.
[QUOTE="SaintWalrus"]Actually, it is racist. By him pointing out that he has a preference for a certain race, he is ascerting that there are qualities specific to a certain race.[QUOTE="ghoklebutter"] I see what you mean. I guess there are cases in which you want to be with people of your race because of familiarity. But that other guy said, "Sure I'll open a door and smile for people of other races but I don't want nothing to do with them other then that." So I have a difficult time believing that he isn't racist. I sense an aversion to interacting other races that isn't based on a non-racist preference. I could be wrong, though. In any case, I certainly agree that people throw around the word "racist" too easily these days.ghoklebutter

Well, it sounds an awful lot like special pleading to say that he only prefers his own race, implying that he isn't actually racist. But perhaps there is a way to prefer one's race and still not be racist. I'm a little on the fence here. The only time I could POSSIBLE see where a preference for a certain race MIGHT be justified, Is when it comes to what you're physically attracted to But to deny another person simply because of their skin color would be racist, also.
You can't prefer your race without being a racist, because experiences do not make-up an entire race and personalities come from all shades of people.
YOu may have a bad experience with a certain race and tend to stick with your own race. But this is more acceptable for a child who has yet to develop critical thinking skills. For an Adult, he should know better than to paint an entire race the same color.
