He made alot of great games, and then he made some very bad games. The bad games were a result of the public not understanding his vision to accept alot of big corporate monies.
Too coin a phrase "its the economy stupid". Charging everyone more to buy used games, and giving them less on trade-ins, isn't going to increase overall sales. Software sales are down, because people have less spending money. All this will mean in the near future is less sales. I have no plans to become a part of the MS software exchange either.
