@CatAtomic999: A horrible writer... who just happened to write the entire overarching Star Wars narrative, one of the most famous movie stories of all time. Without him it would've never existed. Trying to pretend Lucas wasn't the central mind behind every major part of the Star Wars trilogy is a worse revision of history than claiming Han didn't shoot first.
@pongley: "Barely had anything to do with" except the fact that he wrote the whole overarching storyline including the centrepiece scene of the movie between Vader and Luke. Trying to pretend Lucas wasn't the central mind behind every major part of the Star Wars trilogy is a worse revision of history than claiming Han didn't shoot first.
@sammyf: LOL. But to be fair, you can do the same two sentence summary of any Shakespeare Play e.g. Romeo and Juliet, and it will sound equally b-grade.
A good analogy would be a famous author being at their best when they have a good editor proofreading and improving their stuff. Without the editor their work is at risk of being lesser quality (e.g. the Prequels). This new movie is like an entirely different set of authors being brought in to try and ape the style and content of the first. Personally, I would still rather have the original author even without their editor than reading some kind of copycat fan service writing by new contract writers.
Nothing I've seen about this new movie has impressed me much, at least in terms of its creativity.
I don't think people should be as quick to pass judgement on the prequels until they see this new movie brought to us by J.J., the King of Lens Flare and style over substance.
