  • PfizersaurusRex posted a message in the forum topic Windows games running on Linux. on the PC/Mac/Linux Society board

$100 does sound like too much to pay for Windows, that's why I bought my key at one of those cheap sites for something like $20. I doubt I'll ever switch to Linux, even if I had to pay more. Windows h...

  • PfizersaurusRex posted a message in the forum topic AMD or Intel.. on the PC & A/V Hardware board

Both Intel and AMD offer good CPU's. I chose Intel because I could reuse the CPU cooler I had and I didn't have to worry about RAM. AMDs' are a little picky with memory, and their overall performance...

  • PfizersaurusRex posted a message in the forum topic 9900K and 9700K. on the PC & A/V Hardware board

More cores and higher clocks, but still 14nm. Sounds toasty :). It will be interesting when Ryzen 3000 comes out, AMD might actually be ahead of Intel with the fabrication process. Performance is alr...

  • PfizersaurusRex posted a message in the forum topic Anyone recently upgrade from Sandy Bridge?. on the PC & A/V Hardware board

Assuming you have 8GB RAM, if you could find the same sticks used for cheap you should do that. And like the others mentioned, do a fresh Windows install. 2600K is still a solid CPU, you should wait f...

  • PfizersaurusRex posted a message in the forum topic Opinions on Cases. on the PC & A/V Hardware board

Fractal Design Define R6 would be my pick. It has one external 5.25" slot behind the door. It's a mid tower case, tho. Define XL (something) would be the full tower version.

    @moab: GTX 1060 6GB.

  • PfizersaurusRex posted a message in the forum topic Suggestions for an SSD. on the PC & A/V Hardware board

@moab: I have constant 60fps in PUBG, except when a bomb falls really close. But I'm all for SSD, it's faster and completely silent. Just can't afford to change my HDD's for SSD's of equal capacity.

  • PfizersaurusRex posted a message in the forum topic Suggestions for an SSD. on the PC & A/V Hardware board

Samsung 860 Evo (SATA) is the best deal in my country when you consider warranty, whether it's 500GB or 1TB. I have 850 Pro 256GB which has the same kind of warranty (TB written/capacity), and at the ...

  • PfizersaurusRex posted a message in the forum topic Looking for RTS reccomendations. on the PC/Mac/Linux Society board

I have Ashes of the Singularity Escalation and it's pretty good, although I haven't really got into it. The music is stupid and it doesn't have the C&C Generals destruction physics (after 15 year...

  • PfizersaurusRex posted a message in the forum topic About my specs... what do you think?. on the PC & A/V Hardware board

You'd be a lot happier with a Ryzen or an i5 setup. RX 560 is not a great GPU but you can always turn down the video settings to get smooth performance, but with a week CPU there's no trick that would...

  • PfizersaurusRex posted a message in the forum topic How long does it take you to get to your workplace?. on the Off-Topic Discussion board

15 minutes by bicycle. I'd actually prefer 30 minutes, as bicycling is pretty much my only exercise and 15 minutes is not enough.

  • PfizersaurusRex posted a message in the forum topic Should I wait for GTX 11xx series or buy a 1060 6GB?. on the PC & A/V Hardware board

You'll need a lot stronger GPU to get 60fps at 4K even when you turn down the settings.

  • PfizersaurusRex posted a message in the forum topic Last movie you watched ?. on the Off-Topic Discussion board

The Devil's Candy. It's an interesting idea for a horror movie, with a cool family who's into heavy metal, fighting a psycho possessed by the devil. But it's not scary and it's actually very humble, ...

  • PfizersaurusRex posted a message in the forum topic What's your favorite thing to cook?. on the Off-Topic Discussion board

Chili con carne, or whatever you guys call it. I usually prepare it when I have a day off, I use pork instead of beef, everything else is by the book. After I come home from work I prefer spaghetti w...

  • PfizersaurusRex posted a message in the forum topic which setup would you go for?. on the PC & A/V Hardware board

It's a bad time to buy a GPU, in my country the only good option is GTX 1060 3GB. It is overpriced, but not like the other models, and it will be fine for 1080p/60Hz gaming, until the new generation r...

  • PfizersaurusRex posted a message in the forum topic Small light weight laptop to play Civ 5. on the PC & A/V Hardware board

I don't think Intel IGP would be good for Civ V. Either look for a laptop with a separate GPU or and AMD quad core APU.

  • PfizersaurusRex posted a message in the forum topic Is 15ms response time really that bad for gaming? Which between these 2 would you choose?. on the PC & A/V Hardware board

I haven't seen a 15ms monitor, but I'm pretty sure you'd be bothered with motion blur. I have a 2ms TN monitor, and 3 settings for response time: ultra fast, advanced and standard. I don't know what m...

  • PfizersaurusRex posted a message in the forum topic Hello guys, can you tell me which one will be better to buy, i5 8400 and gtx 1070 or i7 7700k and gtx 1060. on the PC/Mac/Linux Society board

8700K is better than 7700K in every way. When you compare 8400 and 7700K, 7700K will give you more fps in most games today, but 8400 is 6 cores and can be replaced with a better CPU, unlike 7700K, whi...

@shakoc: No reason to get 7700K now that 8000 series is here. Get 2x8GB ram and if you need to save some money save it by getting a hybrid drive.
