Adding more RAM does not change the basic hardware.
Adding RAM allows so people to have high textures, more video RAM for particle effects etc (seeings as all of our next gen consoles share RAM amongst they're graphics sub system and the main CPU) To make use of the minority of customers having extra ram. A Game developer will need to code for it. Otherwise its pretty much a redundant purchase on the customers part.
RAM size on a console isn't anywhere near as important as a PC where 40+ processes are running at the same time all requiring system memory. A RAM upgrade won't bring anything new to the table.
