Well I think what it is supposed to do is melt the components and be left for half a hour so they can harden. So I'm guessing that it would kind of re-connect it. And as I said, it was only GoW it appeared under (and only today), and I've sent it back in the post about half a hour ago.

I think I'll try the towelie trick anyway if it does read RRoD. Then hopefully when I send it off I'll get the new Falcon motherboard... (smaller CPU from 90mm to 65mm, reducing the chance of RRoD from 30% to 10%) :)

Thanks Moz, it oculd be that, as I rented it off a online store, so it could be old.

DJ_Lae, thanks as that was my guess. Does the towelie trick fix it? If I have to resord to that.

Hey guys, I recently rented GoW since GoW 2 is coming out soon, and everything was fine since Saturday (the day I got it). Today though when I popped in the game there was this wierd colour thing. As in grey would appear as blueish lumps of pixels. I ejected the disc, no problem on my Dashboard, put it back in, same problem with the game. Ejected it, then my Dashboard got it. Turned off the Xbox, put in BioShock, no problems after half a hour of playing (noticed the GoW colours immideately).

Any ideas what is wrong?

Well let me explain the whole situation to you.

When the Nyko Intercooler first came out the bit that connects to your consoles power plug bit was made out of plastic. After using it a lot, the plastic would melt and so would the Xbox 360, so you would get the RRoD.

HOWEVER, a new model has come out called the Nyko Intercooler EX, which is made of metal and as a result cannot melt as easily (in other words you'd have to run your Xbox 360 for 24 hours straight with Gears of War multiplayer running for it to melt). But microsoft don't like you using it because (as mentioned) the earlier model melted the Xbox after a while.

But how do they know if I've used it? :P

Also, GTA IV gave me a RRoD. I panicked, but it was fine. I switched to CoD 4 and it worked perfectly. I also felt the Xbox 360 and it wasn't hot at all, just a bit warm (I know when it's overheated, I've had a RRoD before). I think what happened is that the power supply cut off for a split second (because the wire inside for my power supply is a bit loose, the bit which connects from the plug to the power supply, so I have to fiddle about with it a lot whenever I move it).

Actually no need, for the past hour or so I've been playing and it's been fine, and I'll I did was turn it off for 10 minutes. Thanks for the help though, I'll do that if it doesn't work again.

Edit: Just now said disc unreadable. Will leave it for 20 minutes. Going to consider getting the Nyko Intercooler EX.

Hey guys, I recently baught GTA IV after renting it for 3 weeks, and in the loading screen it started to say disc unreadable. I cleaned it in a bit of rum, made it go a bit further in the loading, then said disc unreadable again. I cleared the HDD's cache, no changes. Signed out of my main account, played the game, worked fine. Signed back in at starting New Game screen and loaded game, and I was able to play for about half an hour before it said unreadable again. The Xbox 360 was fairly low in volume compared to other games. I turned off the Xbox 360 for 10 minutes. I cleaned the disc in toothpaste and then the Xbox 360 was back to it's usual volume. I was able to play for about 40 minutes more before saying unreadable again. I just turned it off again.

Does anyone else know any more effective methods? Because I don't want to keep having to shut off the Xbox 360 for about 10 minutes then resuming play.

Edit: This is my second Xbox 360, it's about a year old and I've had no disc unreadable errors before.

Thanks for the advice guys, and thanks ronnet for tracking down what it is. And Gregoroth, I doubt it's anything dangerous, it just sounds like some dirt got stuck in the rotor now I think about it (a plastic spinning wheel that grips onto the bit you put your DVD drive in). But I'll have another look and edit the post appropriately.

Edit: I found a lot of small groups of dirt in the DVD holder apon closer inspection and removed them, and also saw the power supply had nearly been totally blocked off at it's holes with dirt. When I finished cleaning the DVD drive, the sound has been really lowered, as in I could only hear it when I was right next to it. Just about to finish cleaning the power supply.

Hey guys, I recently noticed today that my Xbox 360 is making a strange clackiting sound. Whenever I put in a DVD or eject one, the DVD drive makes a small plastic-sounding clacking noise, kind of like the sound you hear when you are on a roller coaster and the carriage is climbing up. I'm not worried about it (no problems at all with my Xbox 360, no disc scratches or RRoD, just a strange sound), but I was just wondring if anyone knows what it is.

P.S: I noticed there was a bit of dirt in the edges of the place you put the DVD in, and I looked inside and there was a bit of dirt. I blew in it and removed some of the dirt and it made it slightly better.

OH ok, I didn't know that, so my account musn't have been renewed. Hey, how'd you do a auto-renewal on the PC? I can't use my own PC to visit the manage membership page for some reason, so I need to know so I can tell him.
