@SavoyPrime @tu2pac @DarthMallrat Well...their goal is to sell as many as possible. So they might have "plenty" of Xbox faithful but they will inevitably lose market share; probably significant market share.

I actually think MS didn't expect this backlash and will re-think their policy before launch. I think they expected Sony to go along with the no resale scheme and they wouldn't be at a competitive dis-advantage. They were wrong. Any smart company will adapt.

@Bolan5857 @XAF1 @mnkpro1 Good god....wow! So....consoles are DESIGNED TO TETHER YOU TO AN OUTLET?!?!

I imagine the developers would be surprised to know that the PURPOSE of their hard work was to tie consumers to an outlet. I imagine consumes would also be surprised that that was the PURPOSE of their purchase.

No, no, no and no. You're just wrong and obtusely so.

Consoles are designed so people can enjoy entertainment in a variety of ways and AS THEY SEE FIT!

This idea that consumer choices should be limited because, hey, it wasn't designed that way and that's not what it was meant for.....

Well guess what...the OTHER guys DIDN'T have those ideas in mind and are perfectly happy to allow you to do these very things. And in a competitive market the guys who allow consumers choice will beat the crap out of those that who focus on limiting consumer choice.

@Bolan5857 @XAF1 @mnkpro1 Well, MAYBE I should focus on doing my job or "accomplishing" my goals when I'm on vacation. But shouldn't I get to decide that? MS is making the decision for me that I shouldn't play games when I'm on vacation.

No offense, but if you think that's a sound argument you're just ignorantly stupid.

@sladakrobot Why I said "for me".

And considering what we've learned in the last week about how every freakin' tech company in the world lets the government capture every digital thing we do....do you really feel safe allowing an ever-connected device, manufactured by one of the companies already known to cooperate with the government, that can:

1) uniquely identify you and your family

2) hear what you say

3) see what you do

sitting in your living room 24 hours a day. I guess I'll just be the tin-foil hat guy and be suspicious of such a set-up.

@blkgto Go back and read your post....Six of your first 8 sentences begin with the word "I". You make the mistake of projecting your own personal tastes on those of the masses.

So you don't watch movies or stream music, so those things are unimportant to you. Guess what? Others do...so it is important to them. Thus, when you say people are "taking things out of context" you can't really understand their issues because you think everyone is like you.

@Hvac0120 I think you're exactly right that the primary driving force behind MS's decision-making is their developer partners and not consumers.

Which makes this very interesting. While most consumers here are heavily against what MS is doing if enough developer go along and start creating a lot of XONE exclusives, it has the potential to make this a more level competition than the "insta-reaction" would suggest.

@lorenzoa88 @MrMan2000 Well, I think it 's going to be interesting.

Like you, I didn't mind paying the Xbox Gold fee because the online platform was very stable and reliable and, generally, has offered features ahead of the competition.

But now, with both Sony and MS wanting our money for online play....most will choose one or the other. For instance, if you and I buy a PS4 we're almost certain to cancel our Gold membership and pay for Sony+ (or whatever it's called).

This means if the XONE flops at launch MS could see many existing customer cancel their Gold membership.

Also, the Sony subscription fee may not mean much to you or I...but I have read from many who consider Sony's free online play to be a major benefit. So there's that.

@MagneticFusion Agree completely. These DRM "features" don't actually stop piracy; they simply punish the law-abiding consumers.

That, plus the Kinect continuously spying and eavesdropping on my living room is a major turn-off for me.

As someone who has:

1) owned every version of every console for the last three generations

2) used my XBOX 360 as my primary gaming / media device

3) has enough sympathy for devs / pubs when it comes to the whole used-game situation

I'm still shaking my head at MS. The tone-deafness that currently emanates from them is jaw-dropping. While I still consider it too early to make a judgement on which system is better.....AND.....I'm never an early adopter.....at this point MS will have to change their currently stated policies and adapt a significantly more user-friendly approach for me to even consider their product.

Finally....I have to add I'm surprised there hasn't been more comments on Sony's new policy of making gamers pay an annual subscription for online multi-player. I think, when all is said and done, this will be a big deal.
