Meh, boredom I suppose.

It doesn't bug me when people give logical reasons or thoughtful opinions rather then "My gamz be OwNiNg ur Gamz."

[QUOTE="millerlight89"][QUOTE="MetalCore84"] Star Trek fans seems to love the game (myself included)mrbojangles25

That is because no matter the state of a game, most fanboys of a general universe will love the product regardless.

yea but how many fanboys are there in the US? 50,000? 100,000?

either way, not enough.

I'm not a fanboy. And many of the other Star Trek fans aren't either. I don't claim Star Trek is bestest ever and everything esle is doo-doo. We like and enjoy Star Trek, hence we are fans, not fanboys.

liking a game because it is something you like does not make you a fanboy. Fanboys are those who throw their support into what they think is the best and believe similiar products are inferior or just can't compete with their obviously better product. I know STO has a lot of flaws, but so did WoW when it launched.

I like STO because I like Star Trek, I like Sci-Fi, I like customization. Not because I am a fanboy, but I certainly am a fan. See the difference? (Let me repharse my stance on WoW. I don't think it is bad, it's just not for me).

sorry to break it to you, man, but GS reviewed STO and it got a 5.5, with an average critic review of 5.9.

Player reviews are 7.0, here is the link http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/startrekonline/review.html?tag=topslot;thumb;5

I know this is the launch review, and EVE Online got a 6.6 or something when it first came out and is now one of the strongest MMOs out there. This just does not bode well though for STO

mrbojangles25

Thanks, but I'm already aware of it's reviews. I'm just going to take solace in the fact that most Star Trek fans seems to love the game (myself included). Hopefully, with time, it can pull in the Star Trek fans on the fence and maybe even general MMO gamers.

Im pretty bias (WoW side) I use to play wow but now im taking a break to play other great games. I can't tell you about vanilla wow cause I started playing about 3 months before wrath of the lich king came out. I play wow because - I like the Lore and art style - I don't see any rpg's have professions in them and I love doing stuff like that. - Gameplay is very creative when your doing boss fights. I mean.. seriously getting to Ulduar and the main tank trying to explain how to down Freya.. gawd damn. - Instances are really fun. Specially when they added the cross realm lfg.. makes it WAY easier to get gear. - the Music is great my favorite is in Grizzly Hills -Holiday events are really fun - some quest chains have fantastic storylines - The cool looking armor and weapons. I could go on and on.. I dont like - Paladins and rouges in PVP :P - There are some people who play that are just jerks but what online game doesn't have that? - Dailies are more of a chore than anything.. but you don't really have to do them.. - Latency Issues that I get for no reason at all.. - Patch Days XD - Some quests are really boring and repetitive.. - Didn't Like the whole Argent Tournament BS but I understand the whole reason behind it. -SLUSHiNaToR

I can respect that. Everyone has their own cup of tea, now I'm curious why STO got such average reviews (though most Star Trek fans love it :))

also, I feel developers are going the wrong way.

They need to focus on the MMO aspect first, and the game second. I know that sounds crazy, but its what I feel is true. All the gameplay innovations in the world won't help your game, no matter how awesome they are (STO, Age of Conan) if you dont focus on the community in a community-centric game.

Lets look at both WoW and EVE Online, arguably the two most successful, longest-standing MMOs out there. They both seem to put the community first; all improvements to the game concern improving player-to-player interaction. Its taken WoW (and EVE) years to add content and depth of gameplay to their games, and thats because community came first.

mrbojangles25

First off, I would like to thank you for making valid points and not trolling me (I'm sure the trolls are coming :D).

I agree with you on putting the community first. Why do you believe Cryptic isn't? Star Trek is very precious to fans of it and I belive Cryptic knows this. I was a regular on the STO forums before it launched and I know they did listen to us and will add content/improvements depending on what the community wants. Time will tell if I am wrong on this of course.

of course its worse than WoW, it does not have the community WoW does.

MMOs are as much about socializing and having a large playerbase to play with as they are about the gameplay.

You can take the best game in the world, turn it into an online game with a persistant world, and that wont make it a good MMO.

I dont doubt that STO has good gameplay; I played the beta and enjoyed it despite the bugs, but it just lacks that ease of entry of WoW, the depth, and I am sure the community is not that great (correct me if I am wrong).

mrbojangles25

This is exactly why I asked in my post for STO to be compared against WoW's launch. Not WoW in it's current state, it has had years and years to grow and add content and add in playership. Explain the depth difference between the two (Launch WoW, not current). The STO community is great, this is a major franchise made into a game afterall (Star Trek).

The ease of entry is something I can understand. STO to me, seems more like a gamers MMO while WoW seems like a everybodys MMO (With emphasis on casual gamers).

I am most certainly biased for anything Star Trek and against WoW. So, please help me understand how WoW (Launch WoW, not current WoW) is a better MMO then STO.

Preferably, please be as unbiased (do as I say, not as I do) as you can. Also, please try to determine if you are a hardcore gamer or a casual gamer.

Reasons why I like STO IMO:

-Ravenous Star Trek fan

-Love Sci-Fi (and Fantasy btw, just not WoW)

-Far more customization then any MMO I've played

-Combat is actually interesting for an MMO

-Doing things differently then the usually MMO

(again, obviously I am extremely biased! I recognize this fact!)

Reasons why I dislike WoW IMO:

-Combat is dull

-Gameplay is dull

-Customization sucks

-My friends life revolves around a game I think is bad

I realize my opinion is horribly biased. Obviously, WoW has a huge player base, so it's doing something right. Perhaps lots of people play because a casual gamer won't care about my reasons for disliking WoW (or see them in the same way) and loves the accessibility (and socialness) of WoW. That leaves the hardcore gamers. Why do you play WoW? I don't understand. Also this isn't meant as troll bait, please lets have an intelligent and respectable discussion. I'm probable being unreasonable, so please set me straight. (here's to hoping I'm thinking clearly at the moment by posting this and won't regret it later)

When I have something I want to play I max out at 7 hours straight, give it an hour break, then I go another 7 hours before going to sleep. I do this far less as I actually have other stuff I need to do now, but I played that way for about 3-4 years before my 360 got the red rings of death. Honestly, as long as you don't leave it on day and night and put it in a well ventilated area, play as much as you want.

[QUOTE="MetalCore84"]

[QUOTE="Hailfire704"]

I had really high hopes for Fable 2 and I ended up very disappointed, so no thanks. Lionhead will not trick me again.

Hailfire704

As did I, but I don't see it as them tricking me. I see it as me judging a game far before I actually played it. Luckily, I didn't let the dissapointment of buying into the hype ruin the game for me, it is still a great game (the general concensus among most reviewers, which I do find a heck of a lot more realiabe then the opinion of other gamers, people are stupid!).

I sincerely hope others can replay it without bias.

I played through Fable 2 once, and after I finished that play through the only real feeling that I came away with was disappointment.

  • I thought that the combat was made way to simple to the point where it had gotten boring about halfway through.
  • I hated the way that interaction with NPC's was reduced to dancing in front of them, making faces, farting, etc.
  • The game was way too easy and way too short
  • The last "boss" fight was just terrible. Walk in, shoot him, you're done.
  • I didn't like any of the characters except the dog

If you liked the game than that's great, but I didn't and not because it just didn't live up to the promises, I legitimately did not like it. I played through it because I wanted to give it a fair chance and I was hoping that it would get better, but it didn't.

You gave it a chance at least, which is a heck of a lot more then most people can say. I do beg you to give Fable III a chance as well, it obviously won't be the same a Fable II, especially given Peters announcement (I'm so excited for it).
