lol I'm guessing the "argument" I just had with @sammoth made the context of any comment this far down a little hard to maintain. Sorry that went so long I like to give people the benefit of the doubt sometimes.

Probably should have just ignored it but sometimes people just need a chance to express their opinion more clearly :)

Actually Valve aren't making the Steambox.

They are literally selling the rights to use the name and the OS to other companies who then build the Steambox to a basic structural guideline and box it with the controller.

Its an interesting if slightly strange marketing move. Going to be fascinating to see exactly what comes out of it… However when it comes to the pricing issue the companies building the boxes have to make a profit so its essentially like buying a pre made PC from Dell with the Steam branding and a much more focussed build centred around gaming performance.

I'm not sure its for me but I can certainly see a market as long as consumers are clear about what it is they are actually buying and that they could build the same thing themselves if they shop around for cheaper.

Informed consumers make the market better for everyone :)

If you don't want to deal with a few bugs here and there and just want a box to plug and play I would definitely recommend holding off for a few months as those things are part and parcel of the launch process :) plus you will have more choices for games once the spring lineup starts landing.

I'm one of those weird enthusiast "gamers" that have to know everything about the industry and be on the front lines playing all the latest stuff bugs and all. Totally Geeky I know lol but hey I'm having a ball right now :)

I haven't contradicted myself. My points were completely valid in context that I can see, and you have shown nothing in your comments other than a lack of common sense.

If you are unable to take my comments in context and attempt to understand what I am saying then theres is simply no room for compromise. You clearly just want to have an argument with someone. Unfortunately I don't have the time or patience right this moment to give you the further ongoing attention you seem to seek from me. I have given you enough time to make yourself clear.

You are apparently unable to back down politely so I'm going to end this here for you, feel free to post whatever insult you intend on responding to this comment, with your need to have the last word, unless you have something more substantial to say I have made my point and you have helped illustrate it quite well, thanks.

And again I would actually question your reading comprehension.

I am quite obviously expressing an opinion for my preference… are you suggesting that you get offended by the very Idea that I could prefer a particular console at this point and that I decided to buy it first?

Exactly how am I being offensive or criticising anyone else's choice… If I had bought an Xbox One I would have been perfectly happy…

I really don't get what your point is here other than to seem to want to persistently attempt to back up a clearly flawed comment. I suggest you either apologise for calling me a hypocrite based on a misunderstanding of my words which is perfectly reasonable or simply refrain from continuing this persistent attempt to make me look bad at your own expense.

Read them again:

" the PS4 looks the clear winner on the multi platform front for me"

You just made my point for me.

It is quite apparent that I am talking about my personal choice and I stand by that choice… the PS4 was the clear winner in the battle to get me to buy it first… thats a purely personal choice and I made that pretty clear.

Um.. nope. I haven't claimed the PS4 is the clear winner at any point. I have commented that I own a PS4 and I greatly enjoy it and it was the choice I chose to make. Much as I will tell you I thought the PS3 was ruined by its controller and I found the Xbox 360 much more to my tastes last generation.

Expressing the opinion that I happen to prefer one console over another due to my personal preferences does not make me a hypocrite.

I also clearly stated in several places I intend to buy all three consoles its just a matter of what order and when I can justify the expense.

I am open to changing my opinion as the generation moves on as I expect any sane person should be.

If you chose to interpret my comments in such a way either you misunderstood my meaning or I didn't make it clear enough for you.

Feel free to quote the section you are referring to so I understand what it is that you were reading that gave you that impression.

@tempertress @grey_tiger

I think some people are confused about the lack of commitment in the coverage of the new consoles.

Looking back over the last few generations the launches were much more media hyped but with the shift in social media and an increase in the public's sceptical perception of companies, these launches have arrived to a seemingly much more muted response.

This combined with the unusually [If past memories could be counted as reliable] close parity of Sony and Microsofts new consoles in so many areas is leaving a rather confused crowd of onlookers expecting the usual bloodbath of contradicting strong views a little non-plussed at the balanced response from you guys in videos like this.

Personally I applaud it as the blood sport approach to console launches seems a little silly and childish at this point in the industry.

Alas there you have a frustrated audience desperately crying out "Fight!" over and over and sites like gamespot decidedly refusing to take sides. :P

Oh and sorry I didn't mean to come across as criticising you. Probably could have worded that better it was a more generalised observation you seemed more balanced in your approach actually. Hence my asking you in an admittedly poorly worded way :)

I observed a couple of comments across the site that seemed to be coming at the steam box idea from a funny angle and was unsure where they were getting the information.

Yeah you can get audio out through HDMI or optical… if you have a receiver that can do Dolby 5.1 or DTS and take optical in then you should be fine. Its the TV thats going to be really problematic, you need something that will at least run 720p

(i would highly recommend 1080p if you want the best or intend to go bigger than 30')
