lol heat problem can be solved by a simple software tweak(I think there is a fix for that already), AMD/ATI has great driver support, power consumption well its not sucha problem if you have good enough power supply

You selected a ddr2 mobo with ddr3 ram, it wont work.

Either change for a X48 mobo that supports ddr3, or swap the ram for some quality ddr2 :)

In addition do you plan in buying a hard drive, dvd drive or graphic card for that build?

thats a maybe and a maybe on higher resolutions, on low resolution no, but if it will, these performance gains will be minor if they will be existant I'd say 5 fps tops

single 4870, I think it consumes less power, more stable performance on the 4k series part, becouse its single card and if some game doesn't utilize CF on 3870 X2 part then you get the performance of single 3870.
