@leeko_link I think you missed the word "creatively". He's talking about how many FPSes become simple shooting galleries after a while, not whether or not they're easy or tough to play.
I'm not surprised at the stats, but I'd hate to have Bioware use it as justification for getting rid of the female Shepard option. The voice acting is truly amazing, if nothing else.
And apparently I'm in the minority in all three categories: Female Renegade Infiltrator. Deal with it, America.
It seems the people's choice award is for Tekken, and I agree. I haven't written it off for Gamespot's pick, but you're right that they tend to hold its intricacy and depth against it. Admittedly, I would never call myself good at the game, but I can totally pick a random character and ruin my less experienced friends because the entry barrier is so high, but it's a game one can really sink one's teeth into if they cared to.
@david1230 I'm surprised this war hadn't broken out already.
Not gonna say New York would be bad, because that's bull. But it's 1. oversprawling--even without drawing in Yonkers, North Jersey, Long Island, etc you're dealing with Skyrim proportions (which can be good and bad) and 2. done to death between games and movies. Post-Apocalyptic New York is featured in, just to name a few, The Day After Tomorrow, I Am Legend, and Escape from New York. I would like to see FO put its mark on New York eventually, but for now I give them credit for a choice that's a little bit outside the box.
As a Native New Englander (and a Boston-area grad student), sheer pride is going to drive me to get this first month, bugs notwithstanding. As real-world locations go, Boston's an incredible choice--historic buildings, but plenty of modern build-up around it, a buttload of research institutions (already willing to bet Super Mutants are based out of MIIT) and very compact. I'm glad it's getting its due-- I haven't been so pleasantly surprised at a location choice since Suffering:TTB. Assuming, of course, that this isn't all just bunk.
I agree with the poster who said that Fallout 3 was kind of overkill on the metro system, but I still think they'd be fools not to build in the T. Maybe that's just me selfishly wanting to exterminate the rats running rampant on the Red Line.
Honestly, I'm not jumping for joy about the inclusion, but it's nothing to proclaim the series dead over. When you think about it, Mortal Kombat and Soul Calibur have engaged in many more problematic exclusions--building a game/alternate storyline around how Superman or Darth Vader somehow fits into your fictional universe is significantly more questionable than putting a music artist in the background of one of your stages.
It's Tekken Tag 2--given the fact that the first one was essentially a "greatest hit characters plus a few interesting new modes", there's no great harm in slipping in a little popular culture to draw in outsiders. If this got to the point where it starts to affect story or result in less effort in gameplay, I'd be concerned, but for right now it's a chuckle factor, not a cause for tears.
Kinda bummed they didn't talk about espionage more... or tell us about Thessalonica, Pacal, or Gustavus. But I guess that just leaves a few more surprises for launch!
