@nl_skipper: Yeah, Witcher has always had a humorous streak, but it's never been so front and center, and never quite so self-referential and straight-up fourth-wall breaking. I don't want to spoil too many things, but you'll see what I mean when you play.
Hey all--it's good to say hello to you all! Just to answer the question, which has come up a few times, I am not back, per se, but am writing a review here and there for GameSpot. It gives me something to do between design responsibilities. However, I've taken a job at Larian Studios to work on Divinity: Original Sin 2, so you won't see my byline after next month--I move to Belgium at the end of June. Thanks to everyone--even the mean people!--for all the support/harassment over the years. So if you want to make Resident Evil 6 jokes, now's the time to get it out of your systems!
@destinhpark: @Paoksis You want me to play 35-40 hours worth of game, and write a decent critique of it, in under 4 days? (How long do you guys think I had this game? If your clairvoyance determined that I've had the game for even a week, get that checked by your local psychic!)
Look, I get everyone gets anxious and whatnot, but you get a choice: a half-assed review of something I don't finish, or a good review of a game I complete. And honestly, I'm not in the business of playing halfway through and pooping out a few words about it. (Well, I do that, but I do it on Twitter, not for a full review.) I could have simply not written a review in progress and waited to submit something when I was done, but I decided instead to let you know what I think of what I've played so far, and write a full review after I've done everything I can in this game and have watched the credits roll.
I get that this is the Internet, and people complain about everything, but for sh*t's sake, people: get a damn grip.
Pardon me for the rant, but dear Lord, guys! I love all of you, but I did the reviews editor job for many years at GameSpot before leaving. (And I am happy to be writing a few last words for the site before heading out on my new adventure.) Let me tell you: most of what you guys thinks happens is pulled from some alternate universe.
@Erebus: I know you are just having fun, but one of my favorite games of all time--and one that is still awesome to play--came out in 1985, and looks like this:
@RogerioFM: A reasonable point of view. I never found the controls to be a roadblock, though I still can't chain together a thousand drifts. I'll keep trying, though!
Edited to add: You must have missed my first freelance GameSpot review from early this year. It was a 2 :) For more hot takes, you should follow me on Twitter, where I talk about how much I dislike Quantum Break. So don't go thinking I am just running around leaving a trail of 9s in my wake!
