[QUOTE="idontbeliveit"][QUOTE="h575309"] And it would have been perfectly fine to narrate over your character playtime, like in previous games. Those segments completely detached me from the game, and they werent even very interesting. All it did for me was point out all the ugly textures on the environments. The way of Kojima storytelling is over. Games like Mass Effect and Uncharted 2 have proven there are better ways to tell a story.h575309If the ways of Kojima storytelling were over the game wouldn't have scored a 10. You got completely detached from the game, others found those segments interesting and were left "attached". Indeed Uncharted and Mass Effect adopt a more efficient technique of storytelling, but only for those who lack the patience to play a game like MGS4 which gives a very cinematic experience. On topic, hopefully my copy of Mass Effect 2 will arrive by Friday, damn UK always recieving games 3 days later :x Yes the game got a ten here. And thats what counts here obviously. But being a big MGS fan, I wanted to be interested. It was supposed to be the grand finale. There comes a point where Kojima was pushing the limits with too much filler. And the fact that you say you need "patience" to play MGS4, just proves my point. You should be on the edge of your seat, or at least cannot wait to see what happens next. Keep your audience intrigued. Kojima failed to do this. This is obviously my opinion, but theres plenty of people who agree. Im gonna respectfully bow out, because Imma quit hijacking.
I must agree as well. I don't think people who enjoy Mass Effect simply lack the patience to appreciate the way MGS4 presents its story. I think its because Mass Effect's story is presented better. Some of MGS4 and theentire series for that matter, had segments of dialogue, that no matter how interesting the story is, went on for waaaaayyyyy too long. Put simply, I think it needed better pacing on their part, and not more patience on our part.
