Ocarina of Time is still the best. Breath of the Wild is the worst "Zelda" game. I'd still rather play it than Wind Waker, but it definitely gave me a much better appreciation for it.

I hate Fire Emblem so much. Not that they're bad games but they are just so much inferior to Advance Wars, and I want a new one more than I want peace in the Middle East.

@Jolt_counter119: Its all about the mentality you bring to it. In RE7 I literally would only use my knife in a lot of parts because I wanted to save ammo. It depends on the kind of player you are

That's true. I think I'm high on it because I'm a stubborn player, I pretty much refuse to use anything else in Bloodborne besides the axe. I appreciate being forced out of my style. The first one is always the hardest, just take the biggest and baddest weapon you got and smash it on a keese, then realize that it's not such a big deal and then the game becomes a lot funner.

@aigis: Maybe the durability could be increased, but then again I've come across weapons that lasted me forever (with durability bonus) and the variety of weapons makes it so I don't miss any weapons I break. The fact that you said you don't want to "waste" a good weapon on weak enemy camp is where our differences lie. I remember when I got my first 60+ weapon and the first thing I did with it was smash it over a red bokoblins head. The only weapon that depresses me when it breaks is the ice rod because I love using it so much but given that they are so easy to find I can just stockpile them. Every item that I find that has in-game uses like the sledgehammer, korok leaf, and elemental rods I noticed are the easiest to find.

Also I really think people overstate how weak the weapons are in this game. The bokoblin and moblin weapons definitely break within 2 encounters but I think they were designed to be that way because literally every enemy drops them. The other weapons I though lasted just long enough for me to get use out of them while breaking early enough so I don't become attached.

@LegatoSkyheart: Completely agree. Weapon durability is an early game issue which makes you have to play smarter and more creatively. My current weapon selection even makes yours look wimpy. I don't understand why people are getting such an attachment to weapons when the game is constantly throwing stronger and stronger ones at you throughout the entire game. Just use your weapons, jesus, you'll find another or a stronger one i like 10 minutes.

@charizard1605: Thats a really bad reason, but if we are rolling with that then it still sucks because its supposed to make you sad. The story isnt good enough to make you feel melancholy about anything in the game. Really it is just a complete disconnect between "this is really cool, im going on an adventure (one that is not urgent so I can explore)" and "you should be sad, reflect upon your life". Sad shouldnt be the tone of the adventure unless you are going for a killer story, which they didnt. None of these even change the fact there arent any good melodies that can match up to other Zelda's

From what I've seen from your posts I disagree with your view on the game overall but completely almost word for word agree with you here. The game wasn't at all melancholic, not even in the slightest, so I have no idea why they used this particular style of piano work for the game. An Ocarina of Time or Twilight Princess style theme could have easily fit in section of this game and yet there was this subtle background sound. Even when I'd happen upon some epic grand environment they would play some lame tinkling of piano keys. They could have easily used some more iconic and boisterous adventuring music, but they went for something else and I didn't think it worked. And Yeah the story is just terrible.

I understand what you are saying and you raise a lot of good points. I personally wouldn't call it a problem... its more of a change in philosophy. And I do agree that I would like to see more bosses in general.

That being said... I still think the seamless weaving of overworld and dungeon is done masterfully in this game. Lil things like stumbling upon the Forgotten temple filled with guardians... or trying to work a giant maze... or taking a mine cart all just to gain access, which is the goal in itself. I almost see each map section as a giant dungeon...

But thats all subjective... what is fact is that Hyrule Castle changed the game and brought it all home back to original Zelda style. The traditional Zelda stuff BotW was missing all finds a home nicely in this section of the game. The first time a door behind me closed and made me slay a room clean, even after all these hours of gameplay, was a real nice thrill.

....and also, anyone saying that the score in this game sucks clearly has not been to Hyrule Castle.

It is definitely a change in philosophy, one which I hope doesn't hold. I didn't find the transition seamless, in fact I found it quite jarring to be exploring a beautiful world and then see a shrine and then be thrust in some room with a literal puzzle in it. It was basically the opposite of seamless. They were fun, but way too easy, but they have to be. I mean were talking about a community of people that think the Water Temple is some mythical, difficult experience. But yeah, the overworld, finding-the-shrine "puzzles" are by far the best in the game.

BotW is amazing right now.... I'd hate to compare it to the rest of the series while I'm still living in.

I think if you look at the BotW world as a whole its dungeons really stand up against the larger dungeons in previous games. Some of the puzzles are blended right into the overworld... if you are comparing to the previous games dungeon they will fall a bit short of you only look at the interior. But so many of them are a challenge just to get to... puzzles to solve just to reveal the entrance. These can be challenging enough that you are given the reward just for entering.

If you count the overworlds this game has huge puzzle areas that stack up nicely against the dungeons of old.

The problem isn't that BotW doesn't have puzzles, the problem is that Zelda has never been about puzzles in the first place. I feel like the game takes everything that zelda did but separated them individually. What made Zelda's dungeons incredible was their mix of exploration, atmosphere, great music, mini-bosses, bosses, enemies throughout, having a meaningful impact on the story and why completing that particular dugeon is important, and of course puzzles.

The dungeons in Botw just have puzzles (incredibly dull, easy, and repetitive ones) and a boss. There are "Zelda style" puzzles in the overworld that I greatly enjoyed but I could count them on one hand.

1. Ocarina of Time

2. Twilight Princess

3. Majoras Mask

4. Skyward Sword

5. Wind Waker

I don't know how I'd rank Breath of the Wild. It's an excellent game but what I like about it is what I don't really care much about in the other games and what I Really dislike about it is basically what makes Zelda my favorite video game series. I am inclined to say it should be number 2 behind Ocarina of Time but the main quest, the dungeons, and the music are just so horrible in comparison that I feel guilty saying I like it better as a Zelda game than even Wind Waker.

Breath of the Wild. The dungeons literally made me sad. For a game I'm enjoying this much by the time I beat the first one I was honestly in disbelief. It was the exact opposite of what I was hoping for.
