@BrokenNoah: what is going with you folks here? Do I need graphs to spell things out? Part of what differentiates similar genres to another is the perspective portions of game design - camera angles, basically. So both gameplay conceptualisation and the impact of visuals tend to rely on what angle is being focused on (or rather what is intended for the player to focus through, like a lens).
@Wrayk: I am aware of its age and gave no indication otherwise.
I half-played it five years ago, after owning it for about another five years, when it was fractions of its current age.
It should've been pretty clear from my post that I meant that this is JUST about the right time for a remake; not "overdue" or hyperbolically stated by any means. Even then, by the time it releases it'll be closer to 20 years - and such a time is the more pertinent one to have this discussion at all (not when it is announced).
@idakooz: long overdue? No, a minimum of several generations or a decade should pass before a remake of this purported calibre. And that's a conservative estimate.
@naryanrobinson: same. I bought W1 with 2 a year or two before W3 came out, but never got around to trying W1 until Oct 2017 (I like trying dark, broody games around this time of year). Barely played 5 hours. Five years later, haven't gone back to it, despite the promise of mods and all.
Okay, saw the headline. Stop. Step back, read the sales blurb for the game - it's billed as a remaster.
Is a Squenix remaster closer to a remake? Probably, probably not. FF7R is an outlier amongst many that keep things crystal clear - and this game's closer to remaster than we'd think.
Just setting expectations; if we go around bandying the terms willy nilly, we'll set ourselves up for disappointment, invariably.
