Online functionality does add to longevity and appeal to games, but like it has already been stated so clearly...its all a matter of personal tastes. Myself, prefer playing offline with friends in the same room then sharing a connection over the internet. Much more easier to trash talk.
Personally speaking, the major increase of realism forced me to lose interest in this installment. I much prefer San Andreas, Vice city, or GTA3 for their easily accesible cheats, less realistic game play and fun factor.
