Casual gamers will indeed wait to see what happens before diving on a bandwagon because, well, they're not 14 year old boys with raging hard-ons who can't wait to see the final line-up before shooting the contents of their puny little wallets all over pre-orders. They are intelligent, budget conscious adults who will see the total of what each console has to offer over time, wait for the end of the initial teething period and make an informed decision on what to buy not only for themselves but for the family as a whole.
Sony will indeed win the initial flurries of the battle and after the first year will claim victory as they have outsold the Xbox One three or four to one. In five years time however we will likely see parity in the numbers sold, everyone with both a Kinect for the Xbox One or an Eye for the PS4, both consoles doing similar things but with Microsoft creeping ahead a little on sales, probably due to you being able to take your Xbox games on the go with you thanks to your Smartglass enabled smartphone and the fact that their friends they want to play online with aren't fourteen so what the tiny minority of hardcore gamers play on will be irrelevant in their decision.
@blueinheaven Like Sims or Beyond Good and Evil or Black and White or Spore or Bioshock or GTA III or Assassin's Creed or Thief?
It happens more often than you'd think. The biggest obstacle to it is the brainless 14 year olds who only want the next Cod or Halo. Like every other facet of life publishers pander to the lowest common denominator. Having a brain or an original thought is not profitable in a world of testosterone driven children brandishing daddy's credit card.
@dmblum1799 You're not a big one for the whole ' in my humble opinion' approach are you? Thank the lord for people who save me from having to make decisions for myself.
@dmblum1799 So the company that gave out all their gamers personal details, the console that doesn't have Halo, Gears of War or Forza and is attempting to con it's users by dropping functionality to drop price 'wins in every category'?
