@polterdice It's not flawed, at a base level the principle is exactly the same - something is stolen and therefore theft has occurred. In terms of victimisation, there's definitely an imbalance but that wasn't the point of the original post. The point (which keeps being missed) was that both excuses are ridiculous, pathetic and not acceptable under any circumstance. It's only being classed as distasteful because people are seeing the word "rape" and are reacting emotively to it without considering the breadth of the context in which it was used.

@polterdice Distasteful? Maybe.Flawed? No. "I only refused to pay the hooker because she was expensive". Is not an equal alternative metaphor."The hooker was too expensive so I had sex with her anyway" would be, because that's accurately comparable to "The game was too expensive so I pirated it." To be pedantic about not paying a hooker "after", she had already consented to an act based on her trust that you would be forthcoming with payment. There was (presumably) a verbal contract which was broken by the customer. If you pirate a game, there is no foreknowledge of your involvement for the seller, any implied consent or contract to break, there is only theft. That aside, people are jumping at the chance to have an INTERNET ARGUMENT and failing to notice that the original metaphor was used to emphasize how ridiculous and pathetic any excuse is for such an act.

@StinkySkunkGirl So the best way to respond to a forum comment containing an exaggerated metaphor is to wish poverty and rape on children and you hope that will make others into "better people".I don't have words to accurately quantify the amount of flawed in your logic.

Some of the justifications for pirating are hilarious. 'I only pirate games because they're expensive!' is my favorite, like people think they have some divine right to have own things they can't afford. It's right up there with 'I only raped her because she was sexy' as an excuse.
