lol another RE5 thread. Another RE5 s***fest. It's funny how people want to stay in the past and play the same game over and over again. I also love how they compare it to COD when CoD is one series that hasn't changed at all in its 7 entries, while RE has evolved with each entry.

In my opinion, no. The PS2's backwards compatibility is flawless with only very few exceptions. The controller is nearly identical to a PS1 DualShock too.

It's not like playing a compilation of retro games on new software - the experience is almost exactly the same as using a PS1 itself. Plus, it might just be me but I feel like load times for some games might actually be shorter on PS2? Total conjecture on my part, but thats what it seems like to me. Just make sure you have a PS1 memory card or else you can't save. The nice thing is that you can back up PS1 memory onto a PS2 card - you can't play the game off the PS2 card, but at least you'll only ever need one PS1 card.

The only time I ever ran into a problem was MK Trilogy. Playing it on the PS2 it freezes up if you beat Shao Kahn, or after a Tournament or a 2-on-2. Frustrating.

Yeah The Simpsons Game was surprisingly good. Not only a lot of Simpsons humor, but a lot of game related in-jokes too. Overall, quite entertaining. Another one that surprised me was SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom

Final Fantasy VIII still looks amazing to me.

I never played it. I played the first and the third, and considering the third is a prequel I never felt like I was missing out with the 2nd. My brother-in-law bought 1 & 3 for me and told me the 2nd was bad. I didn't purposefully avoid it, I just probably wouldn't have got into the series at all had he not bought them for me.

I just have to assume you know more than me since I'm early on in the series still. Letting it go now.
