OH WAIT! They were online! On the Saturn!
Sorry, I was in fanboy mode for a second. Seriously though, Sega owns.
...and I kind of like it. I never had it in the SegaNet days of yore, too busy with Quake III, but I ended up with a copy a couple years ago and just assumed it would suck without online play. Am I crazy for thinking that it's a good game even in single player?
It's pretty fun though, like if Sega made a Diablo clone. In one mission so far I got an AI teammate, are there any other missions like that? It seems like if I can't play with real people, AI stand-ins would be better than nothing. Also, I really doubt it, but is there any way I can get my Dreamcast online with DSL without having the broadband adapter? Running it through my computer somehow or something? There's still a private server up right? That would be sweet.
[QUOTE="skp_16"]Maybe because it's already a previous gen. PS3 will be a legacy platform on the launch day of PS4.-starman-
i'm pretty sure that's the exact reason. i bet when the PS4 comes out, they'll have to divide the forum into "Retro" and "Classic" (pre-2000 and post-2000 consoles).
hopefully that day is still far off. i'm still in the PS2 generation!
I don't think that's very likely. I mean, the PS3 will just be a Legacy Platform. As is the Legacy Platforms board covers consoles from 1968 (Magnavox Odyssey) to 2002 (Xbox/GCN). That's... 34 years.
Why is it "sad" that the PS2 is a legacy console now? It had a good run in the spotlight, and now it's fading away.
The only time this is really a sad thing, I think, is when a console goes away way too soon, like the Dreamcast, for example.
Personally, I think it's great. Now PS2s and games will be cheaper, and I can get a bunch of them. That's one of the reasons I love classic gaming so much. Goldeneye was just as fun when I paid $5 for it as it was when people were paying $70.
Well before this all blew up, I kind of get what YourChaosIsntMe is saying. A lot of times when something becomes super-collectible, the price starts to really outweigh the fun you can have with it. For example, when Playstation games are worth a ton more when they're not the greatest hits version. IMO, anybody who cares enough to pay more than like $5 more is into gaming for the wrong reasons and also most likely a moron. Or some Saturn games, yikes! It's the same situation with the Virtual Boy, kind of. Like, it's more money than its worth. On the other hand, I guess I've bought expensive Saturn games, played them, and then once I was done re-sold them for about the same price. You just have to take care of it. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people do this, so you could do it with a Virtual Boy for sure.
Buy it, play it... feel the suck, then sell it to some other poor misguided SOB.
