I think there is some truth to this. The MCU has managed to impress repeatedly by taking lower tier characters and making them stars. (Guardians of the Galaxy springs to mind.)
But there are limits to how deep you can mine before...there is a reason that they were lower tier characters in the comic book days. The Eternals, for example, were never really all that popular no matter how hard they were pushed in the comics.
And then he looked at the game lineup. As it has been for something like three decades in a row: the system that has the best games has the best product.
Sometimes that has been Sony. Sometimes it has been Nintendo. It's even been Microsoft once or twice....but usually not. "We have sports, and COD and TV!"
But, it is the nature of the beast. These things are cyclical. Microsoft sure is pushing and investing heavily on improving their game lineup. We'll see.
Given that it will probably come out not that long before Sony and Microsoft release their newest hardware, probably closer to consider it 1.5-2 generations behind power wise.
