Good video! I'd have to absolutely agree with it :D
Not that Call of Duty 4 isn't a great game and alot of fun, but Crysis simply blows it away, and every (yep, sorry OB) other game I've played this year for that matter!
I understand some people will actually prefer a more scripted game, which is fine, everyone has their own likes/dislikes, but I sometimes wonder if people that don't like Crysis are trying to play it like a linear shooter (sans the exploration, creativity, etc), which in that case, yeah, it's going to feel much more average. Contrasting Crysis and Call of Duty 4: Why emergent gameplay is the future
JP_Russell is more than likely right about the voting :P but to be honest, I think that same method is the only way Crysis made it as far as it did in the reader's choice voting to begin with.
A PC only game, in which even only a fraction of PC gamers even played, is going to win Reader's choice for GOTY? No question it would be my choice :) but that outcome just doesn't seem too probable.
Yeah, I'm in complete agreement with that video, as well. He's really objective, really does a good job of backing up his points and giving them credence. And I also think that people who play Crysis aren't playing it the way they ought to. Like the guy in the video said, you need to be creative, and people who act like there's nothing to Crysis at all in my opinion either just don't know how to or don't have a knack for being creative.
Anyway, I don't think you're right about "only a fraction" of gamers playing Crysis (remember, those sales we heard about were in the US alone, and I doubt it includes downloads over the EA Downloader, which probably accounts for a sizeable amount). Look how far ahead it is in the PC GOTY section. It's kicking all the other games' asses (more than twice as many votes as the second highest voted, the Orange Box, which is barely ahead of CoD4, which is a little ahead of Bioshock).
I do think, though, that Crysis has gotten a great number of its votes from multiple voting, because if you look at the PC GOTY section, it has about 23.5K votes, compared to over 40K in GOTY. That makes absolutely no sense, logically it should be higher in PC GOTY since it doesn't have games from other platforms to deal with, or at least about equal. If GS ever fixes the cheated voting, I wouldn't be surprised at all if CoD4 wins. It would get the 10K votes from the PC GOTY section, as well as the votes of many 360 and PS3 voters. I could see it getting a legitimate 30K, easy.
i don't want to get into an argument here, but i do think some things are worth noting. first of all, he is NOT objective. how can i tell? he doesn't even bother showing the alien levels. all he's noting is that crysis has freedom and realistic physics (though it's not entirely realistic either - you can't run around with a barrel and knock off fences, for instance) and cod4 doesn't. but you have to remember - in cod4, you're a lowly soldier, and you're supposed to stay with your squad and not venture off on your own; and you're not supposed to open doors and barge in without someone ordering you to do so. you do that, and you'll be kicked out or reprimanded or whatever it is they do to soldiers that disobey orders. all i have to say about cod4 is that it's extremely intense and a lot of fun to play, much more than crysis (at least the demo), and that scores a lot of points for me. crysis has its strengths (as the dude noted), and it should be applauded for that. comparing crysis and cod4 on the points of freedom and physics is pointless.
Why should he compare combat against alien machines to combat against humans? That linear part of Crysis is about 15-20% of the game.
Crysis has some really intense firefights after the first level, which is the one in the demo...
Anyway, COD4's demo sucked and it was the worst level in the game.
I love both games.
